Ok so this sucks - my car develops a fault still under motor plan and so gets towed away to dealer. I phone dealer requesting courtesy car and they have none available - can only be added to a waiting list thats reading 50 odd presently....add to that they are not sure when my car will be done. :wtf:

Is this kind of getting screwed normal....any ideas on how i should proceed

Check with your insurance if you are gauranteed a courtesy car or if its given if one is available.

Depending on the cause and severity of the issue, you might want to take it up with the specific manufacturer's Head Office - check on their website for a toll-free number of some sorts. If it's an unusual failure and you make enough noise, that's more likely to get you sorted with wheels than approaching the dealer directly. Dealers aren't rental agencies, and there really, truly, honestly are only that many cars going around. Every car that gets handed out over & above designated courtesy cars leaves some poor sod begging his used cars manager for a jalopy to get home and back with. ;)

1st prize would be getting a car through insurance, though...

Had a similar experience a few years ago and decided to contact my insurance company only to be told that the clause in the policy only applied if the vehicle was involved in an accident, not for a component failure. Maybe you've got a better policy, if not, try and put a bit more pressure on the dealership.

I think that is the norm.
