I have been using my 3G USB modem at Mutual Park, Pinelands, Cape Town for the past year. The signal strength has been good and I normally have HSDPA connection speeds.
But over the past month the quality of the signal is really poor and intermittent. It ranges from EDGE to 3G to HSDPA. With EDGE being the predominant signal. The signal also drops a few times in the day, and needs to be reconnected.
I am aware of at least 3 other people in the same area that are experiencing similiar problems.
The signal might start of at HSDPA but 'degrade' to EDGE and sometimes just disconnect.

Is anybody having the same issues?
Does anybody know what the problem is?

Have you
1) logged a fault by calling 155 from a Vodacom phone?
2) tried using a 3G only profile?

1 - Yes, have logged on website - no response yet.
2- Connection type is set to '3G preferred.

Connection strenght and speed has worked well for many months. Problem has only started in the past month.

Try 3G Only and see how that goes.

If you can get a ref# from the helpdesk and they don't fix your problem it can be passed on to v3g and he can pull up the call and see what's going on. While you are at it get your friends to log faults as well.

Slow or No connection

I have changed my settings to '3G Only' and have been using it like that for the past week.
It does not switch to the slower connection anymore. It just disconnects now, and I have to reconnect manually every time. Have been disconnected about 5 times today.

Not sure which is worse - Slow or No connection

[searchforum]Cell Breathing[/searchforum].

An external outdoors antenna could solve your disconnect problem, but continue to use 3GOnly - have a look at [searchforum]E220 External Antenna[/searchforum].

Oh, and use [searchforum]ginggs' application[/searchforum] as it has a proper signal strength meter.

Very poor coverage in Pinelands again today. Disconnects all the time. The signal has reallly degraded in the past months.

So have you
a) logged a fault with 155 and got a ref?
b) sent v3g the details he asked for?

Cool. Then I would prod v3g now and again to make sure someone looks into your problem and gets back to you.
