Two weeks ago Neotel's coverage map showed that I had "fair" coverage. Everyone around me had excellent coverage.
I have just checked to see if my coverage has improved. The map now shows that no-one in my area has coverage!
I am now finally irritated with Neotel. Not only do I never know if I have coverage, but their bundles are going to end up costing me more than what I currently pay - hardly an incentive to switch!

The same happened in my area, had Neotel Prime coverage end last year. Now I only have Neotel Lite coverage.

During December, we upgraded our coverage map to depict predicted coverage much more accurately, based on comprehensive data from our radio planning system. One of the consequences of this was that it did, obviously, differ from the less accurate coverage boundaries previously presented. Since we use coverage as the basis for our promised performance and to show where the service is available, the change may have caused some confusion. However, it's important to note that this was not a change in coverage, but merely a correction to show it properly. We believe that presenting an accurate coverage map (unlike some others in this market) benefits our users, and ensures a more predictable service.

Since we are continually adding sites and growing the network, the coverage will certainly change on a weekly basis. We aim to build sites in a sequence that ensures that coverage never shrinks, but it is not impossible that the pattern of coverage may change up or down slightly as sites are added (there is a long technical explanation for this).

All I want to know is if I have coverage or not. I use your map for this. If it shows me that I don't have coverage, then I stay with Telkom.

Simple!

Let me get this right in my head.

1 - Neotel provide a coverage map, but it's inaccurate.
2 - Neotel upgrade the coverage map to be more accurate.
3 - Neotel state (in this thread only, not on their product promise), that the coverage could change at any time.

Am I right?
Well then: Do Neotel refund their customers for the hardware purchase if their coverage just disappears or becomes "not good enough" ?

Coverage may vary for any given network - and is never fixed. There several things that affect coverage like:

- Terrain / Landscape / Topology (including concrete structures)
- Weather Conditions (espcially moisture / rain) etc.

However; having said this there should be no drastic change in coverage unless the BTS at the leased site does not exist anymore.
As Neotel described, the representation of coverage maps are only an indication based on planning / test results. The actual coverage maybe better on the ground - most networks overspec the coverage then officially provide coverage maps showing slightly reduced coverage to avoid unecssary issues - related to fringe and spillage coverage.

Naturally if you already had coverage initially and are currently using the service altho the maps say otherwise the above explanation would make sense and you have nothing to worry about.

Nah, I give up.... srly. :(

I've decided to wait till the company that my flatmate works for, move to the office block accross from our flat. Install a simple wireless connection between the two buildings and voila....... FREE.UNCAPPED.INTERNET!!!!

Screw Telscum, screw iBust, screw Vodoscam's 3"oh look my connection dropped again"G and screw Notel.

Thank you and goodbye.

So true, yet there are better ways of doing things... for free.

I'm busy designing a community site for neotel, though I work over 12 hours a day (without study time) so I can't promise anything soon. I want to use wind cms that can atlest calculate line of sight with regards to landscape.

Screw Telscum, screw iBust, screw Vodoscam's 3"oh look my connection dropped again"G and screw Notel.
Is your chum's ISP not using any of those?
