Is it just me or is the new coverage map thingie on iburst's website not working?:(

Well maby its just your area. it wasnt working earlier for me, but it works now.

Its just been changed though, so they might still be sorting things out. Probably isnt you.

The new coverage map works fine for me, but it seems to be highly inaccurate. According to the map, I'm zoned in the "Outdoor" zone, with a maximum speed of 50kb/s. LMAO! I get 700kb/s with ease. Someone made a BIG screw up with this new map.

Thats what they predict your speed to be in a few weeks when your tower becomes congested with all the new users:eek:

They zoned mine in the "OK Indoor" whereas I get full speed 99% of the time.

GBM, I hope it won't degrade and that the map is wrong, but with more users per tower it's bound to degrade at some stage.
Depending by how much it degrades in the future will determine if I stay with iBurst or not.

We can just hope that iBurst put up enough towers to handle all the future users at a good speed.

Well thats the point of their upgrading the towers to 100mb/s each from the current 20mb/s. That should take care of most problems with towers being overloaded for now.

Its a 5 times increase, which should be enough for a long time especially if they add more towers to areas that need them now, and all of the towers will be upgraded. I hope they get this done soon though, some areas really need it.

btw, GBM, do you use an antenna? That would explain your speeds, but in general the maps can be inaccurate anyway.

EHV: Antennas never took my fancy, and I don't think I need one. However, if my speed degrades in the future I will surely consider buying one. The weird thing is, the old maps suggested that I'll get 512kbs. The new one states that I get 10 times less than that!

NEW MAPS = SCREW UP

He means the diff that happened on the Northcliff tower im sure. that one has got very congested. But you should have a problem GBM. I mean they just rolled out a bunch of towers around you in Pretoria, so there wont be as many people on your tower, and anyway, they are about to put up a new tower in your are, so you will be totally uncongested again.

I trust "are" = area because if "are" = arse, he is sure to be very, very congested. ;)

erm.. yes. Thanks for that correction, ill fix it.

But I just noticed theeres a new Seapoint tower in CPT. And my connection seems alot better this morning, especially for 12:45pm...

But Seapoint is miles away from me... Maybe they are trailing a tower close to me.. I mean they've pretty much avoided putting ANY of the planned CPT towers that are close to me up for a long time. Or maby the Plumstead tower just decided to smile this way for a while. :/

I also dont think it's possible to become so highly congested and drop from 800 to 50kb/s. The new Moreleta Park tower was scheduled for October, but it's not online yet. I emailed Ed Hall about this, hopefully he can shed some light on the situation.

Oh, ja, well thats just their maps being stupid. They dont really mean that you will drop at all.

Mr.H was just saying you could if it gets congested, otherwise he was joking I think.

I must say, I am Zoned for outdoor, and I get outdoor, in fact i can hardly connect without my antenna. So the maps can be correct at times, I guess it just depends.

It would of course depend on your height in the area, like being on the second story of a house or even higher up would result in better performance than the map suggests, especially if you are clearing some things that might be in the way.

Well, I moved my laptop from where my old PC's were to a new location that's in the direction of the tower, and presto! Signal strength climbs from 60 - 90. It certainly makes a difference when you move your modem to a different location.
