Hi

I need to find out if there is coverage near the Dome. We have to organize some quick Inet Connection for this weekend there. I was there last night, but only with the modem and not with the cantenna as well. I had no Signal, I might've just been on the wrong side of it though.

Would really appreciate it if anyone here knows for a fact that there is coverage at the dome.

Thanks.

Currently signals in that area would be from Mintek,RadioKop and Fourways....

NONE work from when I last tested there.... There is a tower scheduled for Honeydew Water tower but no ETA as they don't have new gear from IPW ... last I heard.

Hey KemoSabi, I haven't actually tested at the Dome but I have had a very decent signal with a 16dBi yagi antenna just down the road in Sundowner. From that site, Mintek is only 2.56km away and seeing as the Dome IS just up the road (and on top of the hill) it just might be possible. As regardtv says Radiokop may well be in range from there too- I'd forget about Fourways though- I've found it to be weaker than overboiled spaghetti!

Short of a test with my yagi and/or dish I can't tell you for definite though.

KemoSabi, not sure if there is signal (i'm 2odd km away and there is signal from Radiokop) but you may have been on the wrong side. The right place to stand would be either the roof :P or under on on the side where the electric display board is (to get radiokop).
Is this for rage by any chance? If so is this for the BOYC or the tourney or details dammit.

KemoSabi, I've just driven past the Dome and could clearly see Mintech water tower (It's painted a lovely terracotta colour!). According to
http://rational.co.za/MyWireless/calculate.php?x=27.94342&y=26.06359 you should get a signal from Mintech. Good luck...

hey i try make sure my dome is covered at all times ...

sorry could not resist ... minister of health would be proud of this advice

Hi Thanks for the Replies guys.

Yesterday I went out there, and took my Cantenna with me. Standing by Entrance 2 on the Ramp. I had 4 Signals on the modem...So I know there is signal atleast. It seems that the cantenna is more powerfull than I thought, Standing on the ground i got no signal....I plugged in the Cantenna and got 2 Signal right of the bat.

Aye it is for Rage. it is also for the BYOC section as there is no internet connection. We are not sure if we are going to use it, but it will be a backup system for the DoD competition there. I unfortunatly have nothing to do with the organizing, only gonna be there as a player, and was asked to check out the signal.

Hey .. I'm next to the dome ... well kind of .. on the other side of banbury cross and since that area is in a dip, you don't have signal and I doubt you will as it's a small area

We are Telkom - Resistance is Futile - You will be Assimilated

KemoSabi - be careful. I am in Taurus Road (+/- 500m from the Dome but lower) and you get interference from Randburg Metro - this may be fixed with Firmware 5.x.x.x. I would take a notebook and go and test first if I were you.

I had endless problems (still now and then) but we will see with the new firmware if that is still an issue.
