Hi all,

What are the chances of one of the ISPs being willing to send someone out with a RAIN modem to my place to test signal and speed before I buy?

Alternatively, is there anyone in Kenilworth, Cape Town who has one who would be willing to pay me a visit? I'd even be willing to exchange a nice home-cooked meal for the favour. :-D

Hi.

I have the same question. Also looking at RAIN but don't want to fork out R 2k for a modem if the speeds are not up to it.

Was looking at Afrihost, cause you ave a 60 day money back guarantee if you not satisfied.
Not sure if it relates to the modem though.

They guarantee between 10 and 50Mbps. If issues they look at external antenna. If not there is options that they will refund modems. Look at ISP cancelation policy.

Hi

Please DM your details to us so we can have a go at the challenge

well let's see, the other isp's as far as I know do not even offer to test first

actually i can tell you something without the modem, with Iphone 7 plus, you can manually search for their signal with any sim cards. if you can find the signal, then there is a definite chance, cause if the signal is weak even, with external antenna, the signal will be recovered.

I did like this to persuade Iburst agent to test their network, my area was out of cover map from iburst website.

Good point about this - I tried using my phone but I suspect what I have won't be able to pick up the LTE network. I just have a basic Moto from about 3 years ago, no LTE.

Thanks though, good suggestion.

your phone does not support the radio frequency i believe, maybe ask your friend to help,

So WebAfrica's people have gotten in touch with me, what they're offering is basically a refund on the purchase if I can't get signal / speed that I'm happy with. Which seems reasonable I guess. I'd still kind of like to try it out though, otherwise I'm just going to wait a few more months for fibre to come to the area. Based on the recent Rain feedback this seems as though it'll make for a more stable connection.

Hey! just want to say with the webafrica return policy its really a no brainer. I am 50m outside of coverage range and still get awesome speeds. Even though I was out of the coverage I knew it would pick up a signal since I have a high ground view completely unobstructed of an area with coverage. currently sitting on 4bars, can get 5 but want the router in my room. Currently in Durban.
