Covert .mov files to a HD playable format?

Those of us that (foolishly??) were early adopters of Multichoice's HD-PVR decoder will understand that once you get used to HD, there is no going back ..

I thoroughly enjoy the Earth-Touch.com filler programmes on Ch. 170, and today I visited their very good web site at www.earth-touch.com.

They state on their site:

I am busy downloading content from them and the file format is .MOV ... a QuickTime format ...

What is the best way of converting the MOV to any other video format, one that will not lose quality, and one that I can play on my full-HD 40" Sony Bravia in HD quality?

There are many format convertors (MOV to AVI) but can anyone recommend a lossless convertor?

I think if you register the DivX package you can encode to HD Divx... they will have the extension .divx (there are some of those on that site above)

BTW, encoding to HD format video can take a loooooong time... so I hope you have a VERY powerful computer.

Buy Quicktime Pro and you'll be able to output those videos into another format, I would think. Nero Recode may also do it for you.

However, the QT files you bought are probably DRM encrypted. If that's the case, it won't work. Welcome to DRM.

i actually have a program that does that,,, i made an HD video while i was experimenting with things,,it did'nt really look as though it made any difference, only i think the file size changed. i also found that converting from *avi into a higher qaulity and burning to a disk to play in ur dvd player,, made the frame rates alot less, and is quite noticable, to the trained eye if you know what i mean...lol....

i have many of these programs, but the one maybe you need is....xilisoft video converter ultimate,,, very very easy to use, and has the HD thing you looking for.

After downloading a few I tried using DVD Flick to burn the QT .MOV files to disc, and the quality is very good on my laptop 17" WUXGA (1920 X 1200) LCD screen .... but I'm not getting the audio that is on the clip.... no sound at all, although audio is on the clip when played on my laptop using Firefox QT plugin.

Is there a freeware version of a standalone player that will play QT .mov files?

I'll see what the video quality is like tonight on my Full HD Bravia.

Download QuickTime Alternative from free-codecs.com

A nice app is Mpegstreamclip, that may do it for you, but you'll need QT or QT alt.

um, the QT software is already free... or is it that it does not play it at high enough resolution? (I registered mine for that reason... and to be able to save MOV movies off the internet).
