I have recently bought a AMD 1055T processor which is great except it makes a much louder noise than I am used to. I need recommendations on a silent CPU cooler. I don't overclock CPUs so it doesn't need to be a top of the range overboard cooler, just one thats good value and quiet. I can get stuff Frontosa so preferably something they sell (Zalman, Thermalright, Coolermaster). Any ideas?

I went with a Cooler Master product for my CPU. Fits in with my Sniper case.

Not sure where you're based, but I got mine from PC International (www.pcint.co.za). Good price, I thought, and as usual were very helpful.

Could you give me the model number? On my price list there are coolermaster ones ranging from R111 to R848.

Thanks.

You could always search for the dimensions of that cooler and then measure your current case's distance from the CPU to the side panel.

Could you perhaps try to find out your case brand and model number?

If it is such a generic case, then I would actually advise you to get a better case too, because it plays a big role in cooling as well!

I see a lot of recommendations for a Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus for my CPU but that is also quite big.

I would hate to fork out for a new case unless absolutely necessarily. Case is an Axiz case from a couple of years back (with a 450W PSU in it) which looks quite nice (know that doesn't help much). Case dimensions are 198 x 485 x 435 so it may fit but somehow I doubt it. The CM has the advantage of blowing sideways so it can finish close to the edge of the case.

It's very difficult to find third party cpu cooler that fits into a normal/standard ATX case because they're all so different.

Best bang for buck cooler would be the cm hyper 212+ without doubt. I had one, and it was brilliant. Just went for the V6GT because of the looks, otherwise performance difference wouldn't warrant the difference in price. It is quite big however

Why not look at those thermaltake orbs? http://www.pricecheck.co.za/offers/3642349/Thermaltake+CL-P0493+X5+Orb+FX+II+CPU+Cooler+-+Red/

Prices match those of high end cpu coolers though, but they are low profile. Only problem I can see is the cooler interfering with the position of the ram

Damn, I didn't even think of that. I just looked at the AXP-140 RT which is a low profile one but for those prices I would probably be better off getting a nice case and a hyper 212+.

i have the V8 cooler in my case and that is dead silent, but you cannot go wrong with coolermaster , they really nice and quite

Hyper 212 or Cogage True Spirit is the bang for buck segment.

Why not take your case in to a brick and mortar shop, see what the cooler looks like in comparison. Then buy from Frontosa. If there's less than a few R10 in it, I'd just get it then and there.

My Hyper TX2 looks big, but fits fine in my HTPC case. You should be able to mount the thing such that it fits (RAM limitations etc), and blows air where you want it- back/up.

Get a Corsair H70 liquad cooler :D You dont need to fill it up btw
It fits all chipsets according to info

I have a bunch of coolers lying around (AXP 140-RT, CM Hyper 212+, Zalman 9700CNPS)

I'd look at one of the Zalman coolers, i think the 9500 cnps would be small enough for any case.
Just a last observation: If you fork out R400 odd on a CPU cooler, it's funny that you don't look at the case too.

The two go hand in hand, or at least the airflow does.

Hyper 212 if it fits, If it doesn't - get a Caoolermaster Elite 430 (or similar).

Thank you for all of the advise. I am going to get a CM Hyper 212+ and new case in the new year. In the mean time, I also found out that the ASUS EPU manager was also set to "Top Performance" (the default) which was making it noisier than it should have been.
