So i was happily playing on my Pc the other day when all of a sudden it got every slow and eventually just died.

Its not brand new but its still under a year, Quad core (intel q95mb) with a ATI 3870, 2gig RAM.
So I opened her up and tried to boot her... I saw the problem, the CPU fan was not spinning. So I switched it off immediately.

Instead of just accepting that the fan was stuffed I played around with it and eventually got it to spin (very slowly) It booted up in to windows and then crashed again.

So I ordered another fan that should be coming tomorrow but when I tried to boot it up today (I desperately needed something off that machine) it goes as far as the BIOS screen and hangs. The fan is still spinning but not fast enough, I took out the BIOS battery to see if that helped but it did not change anything.... Have I broken it ? :(:( oh and what do I do now ? The components are all from different suppliers so will they give me issues when I try to get them to fix it ??

For the moment you can take like a 3 speed fan put it on full blast and see if it will cool the cpu longer enough to get your info off.

I doubt its broken, more than likely the cpu fan is spinning so slow that your pc knows the cpu is going to overheat. I doubt replacing the cpu will have an effect on your warranty hey.

That's what I'm hoping...

I'm going to replace the entire cooler as its a stock cooler and then see what happens.
If the CPU is fracked then I'm going to take it back to the supplier.

Yep, its just a protection mechanism that shuts the system down over a certain temp.

When I didnt seat my cooler properly and it was like at 100c, it was also very laggy til it freezes.

Get a blowdryer with a blue button, u know those settings where no heat is generated?

Then just blow it onto the heatsink, while u get ur info off.

Then just wait for ur new cooler

don't touch it!

as you have said it is less that a year - it should be under warranty!
take it back to supplier and get it swapped out-if they see you have tampered with it, your warranty is out of the window!

Got a new cooler... still hangs on the bios screen.... FFS
oh well looks like I'll have to fight it out with the supplier.
