Hi guys,

Haha this is my 3rd post today, I'm seriously enjoying it to post a query or thread on a forum where I know at least 10 people will read it today. I'm hoping to post a lot more, but maybe not 3 everyday. :)

So I have some questions about coolers. I'm looking for a cooler for my old 775 socket system. What I'm looking for is something that's not too big, because the case is quite slim. (Not like a till system or HTPC but just not as wide as the newer chassis out there)
Something that'll help if I overclock my system a bit, it's currently 2.2Ghz and I'm hoping to go to about 2.8Ghz and keep it under 40 degrees when it's idle and under 50-60 degrees when it's under load.

So anyone up for this 'challenge'?

Get an H70, its compatible with almost any socket (intel and AMD and it fits sandy bridge) so will go into your future builds. It's basically 4Ghz guaranteed.

Okay yeah sure, if you want water cooling it is a really nice package to get. But what about if you want to stick to air cooling? Just a simple fan cooler on your system?

Its a very safe and enclosed system so theres no risk and it comes fully assembled and ready to go. The reason i suggested it is it occupies your 120mm exhaust outlet and about 30mm above your CPU so will most likely fit your small case.

Well I still have 2 PCs with 775 cpus. The one I use a Gigabyte G-POWER LITE this has a core 2 e6400 2.13ghz cpu running at 3.0ghz. The second is a Thermaltake Cooling Beetle this has a Core 2 quad q9300 2.5ghz cpu running at 3.5ghz. Both these coolers I bought when I got the PCs so they are quite old but very good. The GIGABYTE G-POWER LITE always spins at full speed and is fairly small. It sits just little higher than the stock cooler. You get different models in the G-POWER series so it depends on you. This fan spins at about 3000rpm and well really hurts if you stick you finger in it.

The other cooler I don't think will fit in your case. Well I'm not sure I still use a standard case and it fits. The reason why I like it is that it comes with a speed adjuster. You can set this relevant to your temp or just set it at a level you want it with a little switch(fan is a bit loud over 2500rpm) It can spin up to 5000rpm if you really want. I rarely find this fan spinning higher than 2500rpm with my CPU clocked at 3.5ghz but I also have a extremely powerful selfmade sidepanel fan which really cools everything down. Also this CPU fan works a little different. You can attach a second fan to it as an extractor fan as the fan sits horizontal and not vertical.

My final verdict would be for the GIGABYTE G-POWER LITE just because I don't know what your setup really is. It should fit and should provide more than enough cooling for your pc.

@ slushpuppy, the only problem with your cooler is... it's not on the market anymore. Came out back in 2007. It looks decent. I'll see if no-one replies I'll show you guys the coolers I thought of. I'll give you guys links to each and maybe you can give me your personal opinion on what you guys think?

4 years and still going strong. CPU has not burnt out neither has the fan. Use ebay and buy one online.

So here's a couple of one's that I'm looking at.

This first one, I can't seem to find a review on it anywhere so I have no clue what it's like. In the ned I can always buy a new chassis if I have to so I've decided that size is not a problem.

I guess those are the one's I looked at specifically. Any more info on these sets?

@nakedpeanut your cooler is in the list there, could you give me more detail on your setup and if you have overclosked how the cooler handled it?

*EDIT*

I guess my budget would be max R400.00

Ok just out of PERSONAL Experience on graphics cards and CPUs alike DON'T buy a ZALMAN cooler

I have a Radeon HD 4670 with a zalman cooler, and I am extremely happy with it. And this specific card is about 2 years old and it's had it's fair share of beating. Some of the heatsinks are bent from me and my lack of patience in certain situations.

lol lies? WHY?
I had a vf1000 on my 4850, it was awesome
and a CNPS9900NT on my CPU 4GHz i5 750. Ran like a dream...

Set up is an i5 750 ( I got 2 machines with them in :) ) running at 3.6GHz Granted my sister uses it for word and facebook but during testing it never went over 65 and thats with intel burntest full load which rapes your CPU.. Normal use is in the low 30's

Most of them are good and it's often down to personal preference. Zalman coolers (CPU) generally look kak though. Some are rather noisy too.

I would say Thermalright and Noctua are the leaders...

Still PERSONAL experience. 2 Gigabyte radeon 3870 cards burnt out with stock ZALMAN coolers. Cards overheated and thermal sensor went and then cards burnt out afterwards. Another was actually a radeon 4890 with custom cooler.

Then a Intel e8400 with burnt out with one cooler thats actually in that list. Then a q6600 afterwards with same cooler. And all this happened before I even overclocked the things. It's my own preference. Like I prefer ATI because I have bought 3 nvidia cards that were DEAD in the box.
