Cpu cooling advice

Yes, I'm torn in 2 here. On the one hand I hear what many says, to not go to liquid cooling, because I dont stress my pc that much.

On the other hand, I dont like settling for less, if I have the moola to do it better the first time now.

And yes, I also hate a noisy pc. Had one once, and it was awful.

been building pc's for 12 years or so. never had to use a non stock cpu cooler. also never had a cpu fail! i've got dozens of outdated cpu's from pentium 2 era even, that still work perfectly. unless you are overclocking or continuously stressing your machine they are not necessary. never built a high end gaming rig, for a 3 days straight type of gamer though either.

Time to step your game up then :D... overclocking is really fun and if done properly there are little to no risks.

Yes, well considering the fact that I dont game, why would I put a turbo in a car I drive to church and back? :D

Considering your car doesn't have a turbo why would you put a massive radiator on it?

Watercoolers also use noisy fans. Although in your situation you could probably whack a bunch of resistors in line and run it at low speed. Or connect it to the CPU fan and set your profile really low.
 
My side fan(80mm) has started making a funny noise, think it's packed up. Question, do I need another one? Got a 120mm in the front, another 120mm at the back. Running a i7, have a ati 5760. Don't game, most days just browsing. Sometimes a bit of video editing.

You only need it if you overheat. Run coretemp to monitor and intel burn test to stress test.

My antec is silent, then again you can ramp the fans up and then it sounds like a boeing 747 :p

However I have noticed that ramping the fans actually has little to no effect.

When I built my new PC it was a personal mission of mine to build the quietest possible PC. I have 8 fans running in my rig and it is close to dead silent.
 
I really would not waste the money on liquid cooling for your needs, and as pointed out the water cooling also uses a fan, i would suggest the hyper 212 but that might not fit your case a hyper tx3 would be the best and safest bet ( I use one of these instead of a stock cooler)
 
trying to decide on a psu for my dads new pc, Looking at the cooler master gx-lite 600w, not sure if there is anything that could be more silent..:D
 
I managed to get the Hyper 212 today, and fitted it now. Temps looks a lot better under intelburntest test, is was 65 max. But as b1nary mentioned, that it might not fit my case. Well it stands out approx 3 mm outside the side panel. But I managed to close the panel without much forcing. But now the heatsink's copper pipes touches the side panel. Is it okay like that?
 
Its perfectly fine if they touch the side panel - but it may just cause a noise/rattle.
