Hey all,

I hav a P4 3.0Ghz PC and my cpu cooler fan is making a damn irritating noise so i imagine i need a new one.Anyone know what i should get?

Thanks

best bet would be to get another cpu cooler.

:-)

Look, jokes aside, it depends what you need. The standard retail boxed intel fan is perfectly adequate. Unless you have a special need, just get another one of those.

If its still under warranty they should replace it free of charge. Absolutely nothing wrong with the standard cpu coolers/heatsinks.

The standard P4 fans are very noisy. Get yourself a proper CPU cooler. I have a Thermal Take silent tower on my 3.4 and besides it being silent ( compared to the normal one ) it works very well. My cpu reaches 52 when running flatout and drops down to 38 in about 5 seconds once i stop the heavy cpu activity. With the standard fan it reached 75 and only dropped to about 50 after half an hour of being idle.

Also, the bigger the fan, the slower you can run it and still push the same amount of air.

I could not stand the noise from the stock P4 cooler, so I got one of these, which I see listed on that site:
Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu CPU Cooler

It is really big, but I cannot hear it at all, even under full load.

At the time I bought it, I could only get the copper one, but the AlCu one is apparently just as good and not as heavy (and cheaper).

It gets 69 dB(A), I do not think it will be that silent, but maybe better than what you currently have.

Two years ago I did some research and at that point the Zalman I listed was the best one could get, except for the passive and water stuff. However, things might have changed since.

noise is good compared to heat!!!!

i dont really see the hype in water cooling!!! - i had it and wasnt really blown away so i switched back to normal fan cooling.

i am currently running that zalman flower fan thingie, with 9 chassis fans.
all u do is get a fan controller and da noise is sorted out!!!

my current setup is running -+ 15 degree less than da water cooling!!!

Ive just been thinking now. - is it actually good for ur PC to run a low temps??

take a car - it runs k@k wen cold but the moment it starts warmin up and runs nice....is'nt it roughly da same with a pc????

i dont know im just thinkin off da top of mt head

My friends got the silent tower as well and he's happy with it. I'm going for either the Hyper6 or the Hyper48 from coolermaster. Tho the Zalman coolers are looking very appealing right now.

The noise can drive one insane. I could stand the noise from the P4 cooler for only about two weeks before I bought the Zalman.

Lol. Bets temp is probably -200 C or something. However, that is a bit hard to maintain here in South Africa. Very variable temp is also bad, since this does physical damage to the components as they expand and contract.

yeah, low temp is good, definately... think about Toms using liquid nitrogen to cool pc's.

Get yourself an AMD A64, they run cooler at full load than an Intel runs under no load.

My AMD runs at 36 degrees under full load 24/7/365 on the stock cooler.
