I got a dell laptop with core i7 and windows 11 pro. Apparantly the cpu micro code updates are done by windows update and the oem, in this case dell update. Both windows update and dell update show that all the updates have been done. I got 3 Linux virtual machines in the latest virtualbox with latest extentions and latest guest additions. They are 3 different linx distros. All of them show a spectre v2 vulnerability (RETBleed) on bootup warning. Does this mean that my processor is vulnerable or is this a virtualbox problem? I have also done all the updates for the virtual machines. I managed to download the intel processor identification utility and it shows cpu id 806EC and revision F4. They couldn't answer my question in the virtualbox or dell forums or microsoft forums. How can I find out what the latest revision number is for that processor and if there are outstanding micro code updates how do I do these updates?

Thanks

Heine

Hey! I recently saw this message in my runit logs, but it seems my older lappy isn't getting firmware updates anymore so that'll have to stay :X3:

Assuming all went well with Windows Update and Dell indeed pushing corresponding updates in tandem, have you tried setting
Code:
VBoxManage modifyvm "VM name" --spec-ctrl on
to expose speculation control interfaces to the VM's?
If the message disappears afterwards, then it was a success and you have the mitigations passing through

Hopefully that helps!
