CPU over 100 degrees - please help!!!

I put about a screw head amount on each side.

Yes that's what I did, but I put a small blob on the heatsink as well.

If there's a puddle of the stuff on the bottom of the case, you know you've put on too much...

A rice grain sized blob in the centre of the cpu. Wiggle and firmly seat the heatsink squarely onto it, holding it in place as you secure each of the 4 clips evenly. Done.

Overheating CPU threads bring back old nightmares

48C isn't hot, get worried when it goes above 65C

48c is not normal temps for an e6300 - it won't die but I won't say it's great.

I had an AMD Duron running at 85C some 10 years ago and that was pretty normal.

yip...that crappy intel cooler clips are bastards...if the get old they get hard and have a hard time clicking in properly...just 1 side not fastened properly is gonna give u > 90'c

Had a machine in a while ago - it didn't want to start up at all.

Replaced the PSU. Machine started up, but switched off 30 seconds later.

Found that somebody swapped his broken heatsink in.

Found another heatsink and replaced it, PC is working fine.
