CPU Temp Q8400

Yep seems pretty good, anything in the 30's or 40's is good. If you approach the high 60's or 70's then you're asking for trouble. Check your graphics card and HDD temperature as well.

Is 65 C too much for a E8200, after hours of heavy load?

Sounds about right to me especially after lots of heavy load. If that was idle temps I'd be worried.

I have a Intel quad 2.83GHz here which idles at 45-50C on the stock heatsink thanks to today's heat. On max it tops out at 80C and just stops heating up.

Download coretemp. Go to Option>settings select Show delta to tjunction max temp.

Now read of temps in main coretemp window. Thats how much headroom you've got until it shuts down to prevent meltdown. Thats the absolute max though & is already outside of thermal spec. You'll start getting slow thermal damage maybe 10-25C before that.

Personally I start getting nervous at 70 on a dual & maybe 75 for a quad.

Wow so i am over cautious with my CPU then, if my Q6600 hits 65 i turn down the OC. In summer i run it stock.

Nice. Cooling?

Stock Cooling. Its just these processors that run really cool. People have oc'd these to 4ghz - not too bad for a dual core processor with vt which costs about 700 bucks. I haven't tried going as far as 4ghz, I'll rather stay in the safe zone!

interesting, on the Q8400 I get 37 - 45C and on the
Q9400 I get 39 - 64 (while playing games) on the CPU and 46C - 57C on the GPU GT9800

seems like the Q9400 is a bit high?

this sound ok?

Interesting.

I got a Q8400 yesterday and on a 4M superpi gets to just over 50 average on a hot night.
