As mentioned in another thread, I have 2 PC's :

P4 3.0ghz HT
1GB DDR2 400 RAM
AGP slot
Gigabyte MB, but old technology

Intel Celeron D 1.6ghz
1GB DDR2 667 RAM
PCI-E
No name MB, but new technology

So I thought I'd simply swap both PC's to have the newer board, faster RAM with the Pentium 4. One of the guys at work said he'd do it for me, so I brought both PC's in.

Luckily, he managed to get the P4 into the better machine running at a constant 56 degrees - which seems cool. But the other one won't work :(

He did eveything the same ... smeared the gel ... made sure to ground himself from what I could see ... tightened everything .... but it won't work.

Press the power button, the power comes on and the fan spins up - but 3 seconds later it turns off. No boot up, nothing.

Dead chip?

478 socket to a 775 socket..... That impossible.....

You f*** the Cpu

Btw congrats for trying

Mobo does not support maybe?

Swop back tot he old cpu and see

Yea I've actually just realised that that could be the issue. I kinda thought 775 > 775 supports all, but I'm guessing it doesn't.

Same socket ...

Same socket ...

Are you sure?
Then it will work..
Make Sure theres enough power or else it will boot up and go off while testing Ram.
Is the screen Blank or does it make noises while it boots?

775 only has PCI - express
478 socket or lower has - AGP slot

Take out the Fan and see socket number next to CPU

no dude 775 alsohad pci-e i found that via postman a few weeks back.

surely a guy who installs pc's would not try and install a 478 in a 775 socket, i know you get blonde moments but you wold have to be brain dead to notice it does not fit.

If it's a very old 775 mobo it may not support the newer ones or may require a bios update in order to support it.

Yea ... I'm pretty sure it is definatly compatibility issues ...

Intel Celeron D

Processor Number 420

Architecture 65 nm

Cache 512 KB L2

Clock Speed 1.60 GHz

sure do
me capped , thanks

i had a PC 478 socket

P4 2.66ghz
1GB DDR2 400 RAM
AGP slot
Gigabyte (model GA-81G1000Mk)

Me currently using this one because its IDE , AGP slot... and C programming only works on IDE < the version I using

I did repair a lot of computers about 8 years now....:D

My new PC is much more powerful then this

So I'll wait for PIC

Think there's any chance of me ruining the chip by trying? Or would it just not work without breaking everything?
