I have a friend that has a laptop and wants to upgrade only the cpu. I have told him that it will be much better to just get a new laptop, but he does not want to buy a new one, telling me that the laptops gpu is not bad. He has a:

HP 635
AMD Dual-Core E-450 APU with Radeon HD 6320 Graphics (1.6 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache), as far as I could get the cpu socket is: BGA413.

So are there places where you can buy laptop cpu's and what are the options and prices for this laptop. He lives in the cpt area.

Best bet is to download the service manual for that laptop and see if there are any options wrt upgrading. The CPU might be soldered to the MB, if it's socketed then he might have some options but they will be limited to the socket & series.

I'm pretty sure you can't upgrade the CPU if it has that socket. The CPU is soldered.

BGA = Ball Grid Array.

BGA means "ball grid array" bga chips do not come with dedicated sockets they are soldered to a board would be quite a waste of time trying to mod a laptop in terms of cpu. Actually its quite daft.......
