Over the weekend a car in front of me kicked up a stone and now I have a small crack on my front window :(

About a cm long. I've heard there's a few places that can repair these cracks. They are able to fill them I think?

How/Does this work? Is it expensive?

Your insurance covers it 100% with no pay in or any other bonus losses. PG autoglass does it they even come to you :)

I believe they drill a little hole at the end of the crack and fill it with something to prevent the crack from getting bigger.

I have a R1000 excess on full windscreen replacement, but no cost for repairs to cracks

Heck, I got my windscreen for R790 or something from Commercial Auto Glass.

PG glass quoted me something insane like R4800!

What car? Is the windscreen exactly the same?

2004 Honda Civic. Hard to say if it's 100% the same, as I'm not exactly a windscreen fundi, and did not exactly study the product... Both are shatterproof for what that's worth.

Glassfit quoted me a more sane R2700, IIRC.

Does that include installation and labour etc etc?
Have the receipt somewhere, but yes, all inclusive.

I went to Commercial Auto Glass in PTA West (Cnr DF Malan & Soutter str) and they quoted me around R850 including installation.

It depends on your insurance policy, some insurance companies require a minimum excess payment for your window replacement, other provide you with an excess waiver, so you don't need to pay anything.

My previous insurance company (Zurich) was the max between either R350 or 5% of the replacement cost.

The same thing happened to be about a year ago. It's frikking annoying when that happens.

Anyways, put it through insurance and they covered everything and they come out to me and replaced it right there. Took like 15 mins.

I wouldn't do the fill thing...no sure bet as to how good that will look. Rather just replace it and be done with it.

I can't recall how much my windscreen cost but it was around R600 R700 and it was an Opel Corsa.
