I just bought R10 MTN to juice up my prepaid sim that I don't frequently use. Tried calling someone and I kept hearing this error message of not having sufficient balance although it's reflecting when I do the *141# check. Tried calling customer care and I get the message that the system is currently busy and I should call back later and get disconnected immediately without being placed in a queue. I have experienced crappy service with mobile operators but this just tops it. What if it was an emergency? Just dumb and inexcusable inconvenience.

BTW who came up with the dumb idea that you have to jump through hoops before speaking to a consultant? Since I started using mobile phones I don't remember any one of my issues being resolved by these canned messages.

Yeah thats par for the course. MTN is pretty useless in my experience.

Not exactly keen on vodacoms shenanigans on this forum but at least their sht works.

112 calls go through under all situations even if you don't have a SIM in the phone & the keylock is one. Most cellphones are even clever enough to figure out which number to dial. i.e. you dial 911 and the phones actually phones 112.

get a dual sim phone if you are worried about always being able to phone out.
