I travel a lot for work, and always take my blackberry along. I'll never browse the web or open email attachments, and usually my bill only increases by a couple of hundred rand. My last trip to Nairobi for a week though has R5000+ on the account????

I see the dialled numbers listed mostly as "BLA CKBERRY.NET" and some as "MYMTN".

Any clue as to what the difference is?

There's also no pattern. One blackberry.net charge could have a duration of 15min40s and a cost of R2.28, another could have a duration of 17min21s and a cost of R4.56???

I'm a very unhappy man about this. How could I have run up all those charges without even opening an attachment or connecting to a web site?

The "MYMTN" dialled number looks like your handset didn't use the Blackberry APN in that case but the normal data APN that is billed at the normal data roaming rate of up to R200 per MB.

How about previous statements while you were in SA? Do they also have both entries?

EDIT: That's R200 per MB, not per GB.

Yeah they have both entries. When I'm in SA the MYMTN charges are generally 2c a piece so you're most likely right. The news24 app often tells me that data I'm using may be charged for, but I never use that on roaming.

Turn off your data completely when roaming, it may have been background applications, updates, etc using the data.
