Ok, so we have this scenario :-

R780 a month for home@384 ADSL
3 gig transfer
after cap is up, local access is still fast.

R250 for an additional 3gig

Then we have this scenario :-

Web Hosting for R99 a month
2.5 gig transfer
Perl

Anyone put 2 and 2 together yet ?

Well, to explain, seeing as local access to ADSL after the 3gig cap is used up is to all intents and purposes the same speed, using a very simple Perl script via a local hosting account will allow you to access international sites.

Still not getting it ?

Well, I'll say no more - just that this crazy drunken idea may be a truly wonderful one ... :D

Barfingly, I'm a bit of a web geek !

I didn't want to spell it out too much, in case "the powers that be" start to crack down on things.

Using Perl, you can create an anonymous "gateway" via a server to the internet.
You know all those Anonymous surfing sites you get ?
Well, they, for the most part, run Perl scripts where you access sites via thier "proxy"

Here's one :-

http://www.jmarshall.com/tools/cgiproxy/

This CGI script acts as an HTTP or FTP proxy. Through it, you can retrieve any resource that is accessible from the server it runs on. This is useful when your own access is limited, but you can reach a server that in turn can reach others that you can't. In addition, the user is kept as anonymous as possible from any servers. Common uses include: anonymous proxies similar to The Anonymizer, other personal uses, VPN-like functionality, and others. It's very simple to install, and very configurable.

Now do you see ?

/me barfs all over adlo ...

I think I kind of get it...
Better yet... If you could get a local hosting account with shell access... wget here we come!

Chow, Nick

yip. clean and easy until somebody else finds the "opening" and abuses it to death and your hosting company tells you to bolt. I did manage to fool a hosting company once to let me run portforwarding on one of their machines. Didn't last long till they told me to bolt.
Yip - In + Out + In + Out = 4x the traffic. Ouch.

Ah - but this isn't port forwarding.
It's simple CGI scripting.

If your silly enuff to run it without :-

1. renaming the CGI script to something like SA125#!.pl
2. running .htaccess

then sure, your ready to be ripped a new one :D

But this would only be browsing for websites. No streaming, nada.

I can see ISP's having issues with this. But it is a nifty idea.
