Crazy RAM prices from Core

You need a really small Phillips and a T6 Torx... Most hardware stores will have them.
It's possible, if he has one of the older MBPs, but most likely unnecessary. Unless he feels like upgrading his HDD while he's got the back open. :)

Not for changing RAM, yes for HDD. Upgraded my 2008 MBP, both RAM & HDD, saved thousands looking cOre's prices!

I called Core today to upgrade my RAM on my macbook pro to 8GB(2*4GB slots) and the price they gave me is about R5,000 exluding VAT and labour.... are they insane :wtf:
At that price it better include at least two very attractive prostitutes.

I believe "funky" is an actual technical term ;)

True! This will also work to open the funky screws on a macbook:

I've taken numerous PC and Mac laptops apart and I've yet to see a PC one with such tiny screws, and on the unibody Macbook models they have to be put in at the right angle. Overall though I think it is quite normal that many of the people who buy ready built computer equipment will not want to open it themselves, even if they're allowed to. The price quoted for installing it for the customer is definitely well beyond reasonable though.

in Europe maybe, In SA you could get at least 4 ;)
Well obviously I expect premium unibody iHookers

I guess the sad part is that unsuspecting people pay this! I guess its not only Core/Apple though, I've seen exorbitant prices coming through for "HP" and "Dell" memory... as if its anything different to the stuff you buy from prophecy or takealot.

:D

but really even if the Mac has torque screws the screw drivers are not that expensive. you can get a relatively comprehensive set from most fleamarkets.

But it's Apple iRAM. It's sooooo much better than normal memory and totally worth 5 times the price because of better user experimifications and ecosystems and stuffies.

+1 000 000

It's made in a special factory with special rare earth components with apple love and devotion!

If it's not from a apple store then it's inferior and will damage your superior piece of equipment! Don't fall in the trap of buying RAM from a non-apple vendor as you will regret it and your children will be punished for it!

Yeah, but it'll also drop the resale value of your Mac to the same level as a PC.

Haha, so true!

I'm a PC-user btw - only cause Macs scare the living crap out of me. O.o

I did get an iPhone, so I'm slowly getting sucked in. Just. So. Pretty.

Lol, half way there... Look into the shiny, rounded smooth light... Yes come into the light... You'll love a Mac just as much.
