Create my own web server at home?

Hi there...

I was wondering how can I create my own webserver using my PC at home?

If you can post any help or links, I would appreciate it...

What do you want to do exactly:
  1. Setup a webserver on your machine :cool:
  2. Create a publicly accessible website on your home computer :eek:
 
I use run an apache webserver on windows as a test server at home while I was dabbling with PHP I made it public for a little while and it was quite easy to setup you have to RTFM though all the documentation is available on the Apache site.

Did it myself.

smoothwallza.homeftp.net

the works, email (incoming only), ftp server and web server :D

will still have to flesh it out tho :o
 
Download WAMP (Windows Apache MySQL PHP).
Get Drupal as framework, or if you have your own pages, just dump it in the www directory.
Remember to open your firewall for port 80 (http) or 443 (https), and forward ports on your router.

Just a thought /

If you want your site to be accessed by the public and intend to make it accessible via a DSL line attached to a router that is not setup with a fixed IP remember to use www.dyndns.com to get the dns sorted.
 
Ahhhh... SME Server :D

my preferred server distro of choice... works extremely well, easy to set up and maintain, and doesn't cost an arm and leg.

The Librarian - were you not going to do a how to on the SME server or has my memory failed me ?

I must still give SME another go as well as ClarkConnect.

Why not just use IIS built into windows , port forward HTTP on router , and setup dyndns.3 steps and its finished
 
SME Server is a good start for hands-on & learning. Later on you can play around with Gentoo Linux, very good distro. :)

Or you can try appserv, it's similar to wamp
