Hi Guys

I need your help badly.

Im looking for someone to create a classifieds website for me something like junkmail,gumtree,olx etc.

What would the costs be roughly to do something like this and do companies charge a once off fee or a monthly fee?

Hi Clueless, Usually companies like these have an in house web team that creates and manages the site. I guess you can partner with a web design/software company to create and manage the site for you but their rates will be determined how much time it takes to create and manage it each month. Another thing to factor in is its a difficult market to get into. Companies like OLX spend thousands on advertising to draw people to the site.

I have been doing freelance Web design for over 5 years and am in the advertising industry.

Advertising is not cheap, judging by the amount of advertising and factors such as time of day (prime time listening on radio), I'd say they're spending hundreds of thousands on advertising. Keep in mind they're owned by Naspers, so they've got one hell of a lot of weight/money to throw around. Gumtree is owned by eBay, so again there's a lot of weight and money to be thrown behind it. Something significantly smaller such as Carbonite (almost 21,000 members - I promise I'm not shilling, but it's the largest classifieds forum in SA so...) has taken about a decade to get where it is today, it started off as the classifieds section of Prophecy Forums.
 
Maybe you can place a classified on Gumtree asking for assistance on you project?:)
