So this is what I want to do...

Basically six different people will be emailing me documents in a word document, on a frequent occasion.

Now what is contained in these documents are motions (as in a board motion).

Now what I intend to do is rank these motions (this part is not the problem) according to a particular set of criteria (i.e. so say I get 2 motions from each group, I will need to rank them from 1-12). I intend doing this using excel using an algorithm I have created.

However, the person in charge would also like an automated index system so I don't miss any motions (thereby potentially messing up the rankings). The obvious problem is that these motions will be sent in word, but I will be doing my ranking via Excel.

I am not sure how to start thinking about solving this problem.

Wouldn't it be easier to just label and categorise all the sand on all the beaches around the world?

Can't you set a rule for it to save attachments from certain people?

Alfresco has workflow features so you can receive a document by email (I think) or into a shared folder then it can be routed automatically through a review process eg. pending >> document checked out (by you)>> ranked(in your spreadsheet)>>moved to 'reviewed' folder when complete.

There is a simple/adhoc workflow set up and a more fancy, complicated type workflow if you're so inclined. You should be able to use the simple worklfow to track which documents you have ranked, still need to review etc.
