creative zen

Well, it got rave reviews on the major tech sites. Might be better than Ipod IMO. Never used it though. Damn good looking.

well the nicest thing about the zen is you dont need to use some weird software app like an Itunes to simply upload and download music from the device which is the mainthing that put me off buying the ipod.

I have a Creative Zen Nano Plus, its quite nice. It supports mp3 and wma and has a built in radio. Just the damn batteries doesnt last long, but I suppose thats the case with any portable mp3 player.

The other cool thing is that you can recorde radio directly to mp3, and there is a built in mic too.

I like it... :-)

cool. never knew it had a built in mic. awesome for samples.

Problem is that Music and TV Shows downloaded off of iTunes Music Store wont work with it

And it is lacking in the looks department, but that is subjective

i mut admit at first i thought the zen was an ipod want to be until i actually played with one in a store some time ago. the thing that struck me is it is alot easier to hold then that weird brick apple are trying to pawn off as an mp3 player.

as for buying music or tv shows... er... do people actually do that?

Definitely - all the time in fact. More music than video at the moment but I've probably downloaded a dozen tv shows to date. My iPod doesnt even support video - its a Photo model. :(

like pay money?
Sure - if there a new series I might be interested I'll download an episode or two to see if its worth pursuing. BTW - Sleeper Cell - awesome show.

As far as music goes at the moment I'm trying to use up a load of free vouchers I got by filling in a papermate pen survey a while back.

thats noble.
Not really - I dont mind paying 99¢ for a song - I'd sooner pay that than r100 for that one song plus 9 others I dont want. Also, iTMS frequently doesnt have the content I'm looking for which is why I go through a couple easynews accounts per month :)

i didnt mean that as sarcasm. i still cant bring myself to pay any money to the music warehouses of this world. or movie houses... but i do rent videos. :)

Dont worry - didnt take it as sarcasm. My point is just that I dont mind paying a fair price but in the absence of that I'll take the free version. :)

bwana : Thanks for the tip. Just bought Sleep Cell now. Been wondering whether it was good

As for the discussion, I hate the Music Industry (And SonyBMG in particular) as much as anyone, but stealing is stealing. iTMS provides you with a way to pay a fair price for the songs you want. I am in favour of rewarding good initiatives with the moneu it deserves. It is the only way the system changes

If you dont like that model either, then rather boycot all the major labels

Hope you enjoy the show.

As far as downloading broadcast tv shows is concerned its just space/time shifting. Could/would anyone complain if I had a Slingbox in the states feeding me all the shows I currently download? Doubtful. :)

re the creative Zen, I have the Zen Ultra 60 gig - works fine - but its kind've a pain in the butt, given that its not auto-recognised as a HD by any pc, unless you load the damn install software into it first. That said, its useful having a 60 gig storage carry device..

Considering your love of the iPod ;) I'd be interested in hearing how you would compare the two.

Bwana, I just got me an iPod. How does one register on ITunes - it says I can't create an account as I am in SA.... I can't even download the free music (podcasts work fine obviously as you do not need an account for that) I am interested in TV shows mostly.
