Credit Bereau and trace locators

I got a sms this morning saying that a trace locator has been added to my credit bereau profile. And to contact them urgently. What does this mean?

Probably or some credit collectors has bought old debt and is trying to collect.

Jimmy, does it state the credit bureaus name? There are 4 bigger credit bureaus and more than 6 others. If it doesn't state which one, its definitely not from the credit bureau itself.

It says: "please contact us urgently. VVM 0877401212" and gives a reference number. Usually I'd ignore it but, I have been doing quite a bit of international travel recently and have been swiping a lot with my credit card. So I thought it might actually be legit. If it is legit could I sort the issue out at a local branch of my bank?

I doubt it is old debt as my credit card has always been in good standing. I do make use of the overdraft quite liberally but I have never missed a required repayment.
 
VVM Attorneys. Specialist "Debt collectors". (google them).

I'd phone them and state the reference number, and then when they say it's not for you but somebody else, I'd ask them to remove my number from that profile and not to send me any more messages. (I'm speaking from experience of this company)

"VVM"..that's one of those cruddy, barely legal agencies who employ alcoholic lawyers. I'd ignore it.

It's probably got something to do with this. I had a TV about 2 years ago which I gave away. Some attorneys had contacted me previously and asked to pay my TV license. I tried to do this but was unable to due to not being able to find some reference no. required to pay online. I requested the attorneys send me exact details of how to proceed with the payment, they agreed, and I never heard from them again. I'll phone the number later today and hear what's up.
 
They cannot "blacklist" (aka have a negative non payment listing at a credit bureau) for a TV license issue, so its relatively save to just ignore them.

Credit bureaus have stopped listing TV license non payment like more than a decade ago.
 
How do you not pay a TV license and not have a lawyer mess develop?
Have had no Tv for 3 yrs but still am expected to pay

But you must pay. How else is SABC going to fund the cream of the crop local soap opera Generations?
 
My Wife got a similar message last night addressed for me, clearly they are getting desperate.
 
My wife just got the same message again, it says CPB credit Bureau Contact VVM and the number is 0877401181.
 
VVM and MDB attorneys should die in a fire.

I had a trace alert put on my Transunion report for a cell phone account from 18 years ago from MBD.
 
Trace alert means that someone is looking for you.

However, given that its VVM, I won't waste my time. As per @Crowley, VVM and MDB are lower that skaapkak, both should be outlawed.

One of these days the JSE will delist Transaction Capital (who now owns MDB) from the main board if enough people should just start reporting them
 
You can add Blake and associates to that list. Debt collectors call centre hell that.
 
You can safely blacklist them via truecaller and spam their emails. It's sabc crap.

Edit: when I'm bored I answer the calls, they say, "Am I talking to mr. A?" I respond with, "what is this in connection with?" they say "I can't tell you unless you verify that you are Mr. A" to which I respond, "I do not give out personal information to random strangers over the phone" then they keep trying to get me to verify who I am and I keep telling them they can stick it without more information till either they hang up or I do.

Are Blake and associates debt collectors themselves or just the call center operators?

Erm see nope, first call of action with these bastards is always deny the debt, deny deny deny - there is jack **** they can and will do because it costs them way too much to actually pursue any case in court they just work off intimidation.
