Hi

I need to get credit card of some sort.

When I want to purchase a game on steam or when I when I need to renew EVE subscription, I always have to phone a friend to do the purchase for me on his card.

I currently have a savings account with ABSA.

Will pay pal work for my needs?
Will I be able to link my ABSA account to Pay Pal and use that to purchase?

Can I get a credit card that will allow me to transfer funds from my ABSA account into the credit card account and use that to purchase?

I need something that I won't get a monthly bill for.

Paypal should work, you won't be able to link your Absa account (only FNB allow this) but you will be able to link any credit card to paypal.
All credit cards should allow you to transfer funds into the account, it might be better to get an Absa credit card so that the transfer is instant.

I assume you already pay banking charges at absa, so inquire how much it would cost to get a normal cheque card? This can be used anywhere online and u wont have to have an extra card for your day to day stuff.

Get a Virgin Money card. Zero fees, including on transactions and transfers are instantaneous due to them being managed by ABSA anyway.

ABSA savings to credit card transfers are instant. You can use the card the same way as a cheque card when you transfer funds onto it. No transaction fees, only a monthly charge of R12...

Absa to virgin money is also instant, and there is NO monthly charge.

So then I can transfer funds from my Absa savings account to the Virgin Money account and use it like a normal credit card?

For internet stuff I still prefer a debit card linked to a cheque account or savings account. These can usually be used anywhere (I have a VISA, and have not had any problems anywhere). I keep the money in that account limited so that if my details get out on the web I still don't really have a worry.

I would not use a Virgin Credit card on the web without being very, very sure of the place I buy from.

So yes: my suggestion: Get a debit card, just make sure it's VISA or MASTERCARD and voila ...

It IS a normal credit card. I'm not sure what you expect from a "normal" card, but that's how all card's I've had worked. I pay my balance at the end of the month by transferring money into it with online banking.

Which one of these will be best? I think the Classic is what I am looking for but I don't understand what the difference is between the Classic and Virgin Money Card.

Pros and cons of each card?

Will I be able to buy anywhere with both of these cards?

Sorry for all the questions but I have no idea how this works.

You could also open a Moneybookers account. Steam accepts Moneybookers as a payment method. You only need to do a local EFT transfer for your funds to appear in your account. Hope this helps:)
