I went to the bank to get a credit card (and what a mission that was), so eventually I got out of there with a huge pack of notes and things... So, I went through all of it and saw this one little thing that is troubling me, unfortunately I only have it in Afrikaans:

"Paaiement, insluitende rente, fooie, sonder opsionele versekering: R407.82"

I have no idea what that is. Is here anybody that can shed some light on it? Must I pay that each month? Or what is it?

It does sound like the annual fee, which many banks don't charge.

I'd also recommend the use of a Visa cheque card which has the same buyer protections built-in as found on the credit card.

It's really odd that my US BOA and my UK HSBC accounts don't have service fees but my small FNB account has major fees.
