So I have a question, been checking my free credit reports and I see that Vodacom still has an account listed as "Open or current" even though the last payment was 2012-05-31. I've been prepaid on Vodacom since then. My other accounts are still either Open as they should be or Closed as they should be.

Should I just leave it as is? Is there a negative or positive benefit on having it listed there as open?

Oh and here are some links to get your free reports (you can get a free one every year from each):
Transunion:

Experian:

XDS:

You should phone vodacom and ask them to close it off. I almost got my homeloan application denied because two older vehicles, the insurance on those vehicles and a vodacom contract was still open on my report. I had to get proof that all these accounts were closed off before they would continue with the application. I ended up leaving the vodacom contract on my Income and expensis sheet because I didn't want to wait for vodacom to sent me a letter.

If the status = open, it can be bad for you, if you apply for any credit or purchase anything, these "open" or "current" status items can count against you.

The norm is when you have finished paying an account which reflects on a credit report, you have to get a letter from the company you have been paying stating that you have finished your payments, this you send to the credit report agency to remove you from that list.
