Potchefstroom - Nestlé officials will be meeting with the Tlokwe community and a DA councillor who brought the recent spillage of large quantities of coffee creamer into the Mooi River to public attention.

Nestlé’s Ravi Pillay told OFM News this morning that he will be putting in an appearance at noon today in Potchefstroom to discuss short and medium term solutions to the problem.

On Tuesday residents were left bewildered after the Mooi River had turned a milky white colour. It later transpired that a large spill of Cremora had occurred at the Nestlé factory upstream.

DA councillor Juanita Terblanche said she will bring the following suggestions to the table.

Love how the lady in the first picture is pointing at the water, Like it has to be pointed out that there is something wrong with the water.

I'm not sure how something like this unintentionally leaks into a river. Would love to see the explanation.

Well Thandi... It really is inside now and not on top!

Funny but not actually.

What else has Nestle been dumping in the river? That Cremora will damage the environment and they must be held accountable.

The woman pointing is a good thing because some South Africans are so blind to things they wouldn't notice otherwise.

Get them to dump some coffee and sugar too.

Set up LAN downstream

Instant clean-up of said spill.

Interesting though, this story is running around on minor news/article related sites two days ago, but nothing vocal coming from the major media entities.

Hemi is correct, this is not funny, and this is an environmental disaster.

Nestle needs to come to the table and explain this chemical spill, than saying that they are doing everything, where is the authorities?

Looks more like the Mooi Stream.

Maybe edit the title to reflect it's the one in Potchefstroom and not KZN

Ja - why would Nestlé have any means at all of allowing any kind of spill to conveniently land in a river. Unless...

...they have been sneaking crap into that water forever and a day. Green Scorpions must investigate fully. Most animals are lactose intolerant.

When was the last time you heard a mega-corp like Nestle getting bad press in mainstream media? BP? Only when the disaster is at a scale that you might see it from orbit will media outlets threaten their sponsors. Corporations doing bad things is not news, it's not anything for you to concern yourself about. Watch some rugby or cricket rather, there you go, look at the ball yes the ball watch the ball ohhh look someone threw it...

AFAIK it is more hydrogenated palm oil, and devoid of any dairy.

EDIT: i see they add a little bit of casein (milk protein) but absolutely no lactose. it is lactose free. cremora is crap for your body and thus, such a large scale spill cant be good for the river ecosystem.
