CRICKET: SA v India

Smith man of the match

Polly man of the series...

Dravid showed some great sportsmanship thanking just about everyone and esp thanked Smith first for a great series.

Agreed :D

I watched the Indian team leave the field and when Nel came out to shake hands, it was amazing cause they were so happy to see him. Munafah Patel and Zahir Kahn both beamed from ear to ear when they took his hand. This was after they just lost

Even the South Africans showed great sportsmanship. Kallis shook Shreesanth's hand and stopped to say a few words of encouragement to the lad. Even Nel hugged him.

Now that's cricket!

Indeed. Good to see! :D

@JontyB: Im being negative cos things are looking bleak. It was looking bleak when the score was 20 for no wicket and it was looking even more bleak when they were 60 for no wicket. I could see the sa players drop their heads. Im not a pessimist... im positive when things look positive. Im not saying we will lose this game, we really shouldn't. But winning will require a bit of a miracle cos of the pitch. And i think a drawn series against india is a disappointment for us.

looks like miracles do happen or is that.......good captaincy and a very good performance by SA. Test matches aren't determined on the first day.

Showed the mental weakness in the Indian team though...Like being shot down through the air and not knowing wtf happened.

Let's hope we can keep up our good form for the Pakistan Tests and ODI's. It would be a shame to lose to them just before the World Cup. Total confidence killer.

To all the anti-Smith peeps: Smith scored the second highest total runs in the series. Once again I iterate I am not a Smith fan, but seriously, 2 - 1 series win (largely attributable to good captaincy), second highest test series runs, and this after a noteworthy slump at the start of the series... I think he deserves a public (as public as this forum may be) apology.

I don't agree with you on that Jonty. One good performance doesn't make up for those games when he couldn't score above 10 runs...

Sure, I'll give him a chance. If he can perform against Pakistan in the tests AND the ODI's, then he deserves an apology.

Fat chance!!
He cant stand up to Zaheer Khan, the Paki bowlers gonna kill him!!:D
Inzi also has more experience as captain, Smith is way out of depth.

Smith is a good player, there's no doubt about that. He's just under immense pressure from the SA public. That's why I think he's batting isn't up to standard.

Plus, he's a knob.
An opener must be consistent... give stability to the top order.... They supposed to lay down a good platform for the rest of the batters to come...
He has done none of the above, at least, not consistently.

He's a good captain though...one of the best we've had IMO. Cronje and Polly had good players in their team. Look at ours. We have a middle order than can't do squat and does well every now and then. He's the one that sent Pollock in yesterday and masterminded the Indian's collapse...now give him credit for that.

Lol!! What??

Why was there pressure on the middle order? Coz of Smith.
ANy captain even I would have sent in a pinch hitter.

Yeah. He had the devil on his side.

Also had a great team to captain: Donald, De Villiers, MacMillan, Pollock, Boucher, Kallis (when he bowled and batted like a demon), Cullinan, Ntini (to an extent at the time), Kirsten, Hudson etc. Look at our squad now. Who's actually assured of their place?

I guess you could never sway any of the forum members about Smith. I'm not a fan of him but I have faith in him as a captain and a good captain...Admit it, Smith captained the last two matches very well when most of the guys on this forum was already giving up on the game on the first day.
