Since we now only have 12 odi's left before the team leaves for the world cup I thought it might be an interesting discussion.

Now firstly I have not considered boucher since the selectors seem to have made the call to go with ab as the keeper. Personally I would have stuck with bouch till post wc 2011 but that call has been made so no point going back.

I presume the squad since is 15 so here we go.

1.Smith
2.Amla
3.Kallis
4.AB(keeper)
5.Duminy
6.Miller
7.A.Morkel
8.Botha
9.Parnell
10.Steyn
11.Theron

That would be my first choice 11.

Reserves:

12.M.Morkel
13.Langeveld
14.R.Peterson
15.A. Petersen

Ideally I would prefer to pick one of ingram,d.jacobs, van wyk, rudolph or rossouw ahead of petersen because they are more suited to odi cricket but to get the targets right petersen has to go.

I am going for langeveld ahead of tsotsobe and peterson ahead of van der merwe. I don't believe there is much difference in bowling between robbie p and vdm and robbie is the better batsman and fielder.

I think this is the best balanced side we can currently take.

for the love of all that is good, why R. Peterson?

The world cup is in the subcontinent, so we need a decent spinner to compliment Botha [#1 option] and Duminy [#3, but he'll be in the squad].

1.Smith
2.Amla
3.Kallis
4.AB(keeper)
5.Duminy - Form dependant,
6.Miller
7.A.Morkel
8.Botha
9.Parnell
10.Steyn
11.Theron

That would be my first choice 11.

Reserves:

12.M.Morkel
13.I. Tahir [i know, controversial, but seeing as it's sub continent, and that Tahir turns it on most pitches, might not be a bad choice to play on low/slow wickets]
14. D. Jacobs/C. Ingram [this guy is going to a massive cricketer for SA]
15. H. Kuhn [what if AB can't be up to scratch with the keeping? can AB stand up to Albie/Theron etc.]

Good balanced side, Though i would like Morne for Theron and R. Peterson for Parnell, Two full out pace bowlers Steyn and Morne, they can change with albie and Kallis, and 2 spin bowlers in Botha and Peterson to slow down the run rate. As well as Peterson can bat, can also throw him up the order if really needed to speed up the run rate.

erm... dont forget the qouta's.... we all know that that bull$hit will start just as soon as the team is announced....

the team doesnt ' represent the demographics of SA'......

The batting is pretty much cast in stone although I would like to see Alviro replace either Miller or Duminy.Langervelt as being a more experienced bowler could also come in for Theron. There's no way you can leave Morkel out.He and Steyn make a formidable opening pair.

Like Blitzkit said, you need 2 wicketkeepers. I'd prefer to have AB and Boucher in, but if Boucher is out, then we need either Davey Jacobs or Khun.

My choice would be:
1 Smith
2 Amla
3 Kallis
4 de Villiers
5* Duminy
6* A Morkel
7* Miller
8 Botha
9 Parnell
10 Steyn
11 Theron

*situational order

12 M Morkel
13 Langevelt
14 R Peterson (not a big fan, but we need another spinner)
15 Ingram (assuming he is back in form)

Give me a better option then.

Petersen goes as the reserve batsman and can force his way into the side ahead of duminy. I like to have two finishers in the side, so miller and a.morkel plays in my side.

Who will be your death bowlers then? You are basicly dropping our two best death bowlers.

On the wicket keeper I don't agree he needs to be in the squad as a reserve. If you get an injury you can replace the keeper. If you really must have one then one of the fast bowlers will miss out.

True hey, rather swop albie for Theron i say. Albie is good on his day, but lacks consistency.

For albie isn't in the side for his bowling so I wouldn't swap him for an out and out bowler.

Basicly in my chosen first 11. You have parnell and steyn opening the bowling and then kallis and theron bowling the rest of the power play overs. You have botha bowling his 10. Theron,Parnell and Steyn finishes the innings. I then use a.morkel and duminy as my filler bowlers, they will genereally share the 5th bowling spot with kallis but are options to bowl someone else's overs if they are struggling.

Morkel together with david miller are my finishers in the batting. I like to have 2 and not rely on just one guy.

Not sure how often Kallis will bowl. He'll bowl less and less over the next years.

He still does between 5-8 overs an innings. In the team he doesn't need to bowl all 10, you have jp and albie to bowl the rest between them. Making up the 5th bowler between the 3 of them shouldn't be a problem.

Agree with that, except I'd have R. Petersen in for Albie.

as i was saying about Tahir:

Imran Tahir shone for the Nashua Dolphins as his seven-wicket haul saw the Nashua Titans bowled out for 242 on the first day of their SuperSport Series match at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead in Durban on Thursday.

We need to take this guy to the subcontinent.....

Scorecard

Is he now eligible?? I would to see how he does in the pro40 but if he keeps it up, I would definitly take him. Always like having a legspinner in my squad.

Our bowling (titans bowling attack ) looks very poor when morkel is away with the national side. We didn't replace any of the lost bowlers. We got cj de villiers but he wasn't even making the eagles/knights side last season.
