Cricket world cup discussion thread

Pakistan V Kenya
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first

Pakistan's team: Hafeez, Shehzad,Younis Khan, Umar Akmal, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi*, Abdul Razzaq, Umar Gul, Shoaib Akhtar, Abdur Rehman
Kenya's team: SR Waters, MA Ouma†, CO Obuya, SO Tikolo, T Mishra, RR Patel, JK Kamande*, TM Odoyo, NN Odhiambo, SO Ngoche, E Otieno

Current score: 12/1 after5.5 overs
hafeez the man out

If the Dutch can continue racking up these big scores I'd like to see them at least gain test status.

24/2 Shehzad is the next man gone.

Very slow start by pakistan. the early wickets could play a pivotal role in restricting Pakistan to a manageable total.

That would be great but I don't think they are ready for test cricket. perhaps they could be a full fledged ODI member where countries MUST TOUR them and they must tour opposing countries.

yes. i wonder why the ICC doesn't create a "Rest of Europe" and "Rest of Africa" teams. i know it sounds silly, but it can be a temporary solution to give exposure to the "minnows"

ROE can be Ireland, Netherlands, Austria, Germany etc etc
ROA can be Nam, Kenya etc etc

These guys can the participate in tours , and they can build experience.

This needs funding. The ICC needs to fund. the associate nations do not have the money.

It is a bit of a catch 22, if these teams are included, they will definetly improve, and if they are not included, well then they will always be known as the minno's.

I think what makes it difficult is when a the top teams tour, the tours do take long, normaly involves 3 tests, 5 ODI's and maybe 2 T20's, so its along time away from home and its alot of cricket.
They would have to shorten these tours to include them. Like you said though, create a tour season for the minno's to take each other on and maybe have some sort of a relegation system in place for the best "minno" team.

that's a great idea. But the associate nations do not have alot of funding. Am I correct when I say that most players from associate nations are amateurs?

Yes, I do agree with you regarding the funding and yes alot of the players are mostly probably amateurs.

cutting the number of teams like they did to the champions trophy is crap. netherlands nearly beat england and zim bowled well against aus

A feel gutted for Kenya. Just too much for them in the end.

Pakistan won by 205 runs.

Kenya bowled well up front and looked good for a while. Discipline in the bowling let them down though and it showed in the extras column.

Really wish there were some way that some of the minnow nations could bridge the gap, especially teams like Kenya, Zim, Ireland and the Netherlands.

So it's our big day today, team selection will be interesting

*rooting for Botha to be dropped*

Will be interesting to note if Tahir plays.

Selectors kept him under wraps against India. According to Smith, he is the 'secret weapon '.

Will be some weapon if he does'nt get any game time......

To even suggest he will be saved for the knockout stages of tourney will be ludicrous and it will backfire.

I can't wait :D dressed up in green and gold :D

brought a tv to work to watch the game aswell.

I think the team will be:
Smith
Amla
Kallis
AB
Duminy
Ingrim
Botha
Steyn
Morkel
Lopsy
Tahir / Peterson

In ditched my pay TV a while back because free to air usually covers everything I need to watch and stuff like this is too infrequent. Free to air (Ch 9) is only showing the Aus games

Any good streaming sites for today's game?

Thanks in advance
