Cricketer Phillip Hughes passes away

I didn't realise it was that bad.

I aways thought it was a chop thing to do.

It's NOT "that bad". These are freak accidents that happens in cricket. It is part of the game. When a rock hard ball hurtles at you at 100's of km's per hour, you are in danger. Boucher lost an eye to a spinner. Shall we just play with a rubber ball rather?

Ofc it is, the amount of people that has been killed or seriously injured due to bouncers. And for what? To waste 1 ball per over?
There was a guy killed just last year in SA due to a bouncer.

No it isn't. It's part of the "terms and conditions" when you play the game.

You probably wanted F1 to totally stop existing every time a driver was killed. While we're at it, why don't we just stop driving to work every day, since that is a much easier method to get killed.

You are a scrub...

I'm not saying it isn't, I'm saying it should be removed. It's of no use what so ever to the game. It's being used shake batsmen and the knowledge that it's coming anytime this over. It serves no purpose what so ever as if you remove it both teams bat and bowl the same. It's not freak accidents. There are lots of players being injured and killed that is a fact. It's not needed.

I was reading this article completely gobsmacked at how some obviously deranged bouncer had made it onto the pitch and managed to hit this guy. DOH! *facepalm*

Strength to the guy. Hope he recovers soon.

Hughes getting hit and badly injured is a sad event.

But, I see someone attempting to extrapolate the exception to be the norm, you know what they say about that...

How many bouncers are bowled in a season?
How many bouncers does one player face in a season?
How often do they get hit?
How many players are seriously injured?
How many die?

Correlate those stats and the rest will be obvious...

Hope he makes a full recovery....but the numpties that are trying to make this into a crusade to stop bouncers do not know that bouncers are an attacking ball that is more often than not hit for runs, the poor hookers get caught and the ones that want to hook but take their eyes off the ball may get hit.
You can way up those risks as a batsman

You clearly know nothing about cricket and the strategy behind short balls/bouncers.

The title had me thinking he'd been assaulted in a night club.

+1

Also , spare a thought for the bowler too.

The bowler who bounced the ball for his head to begin with?

It's like shooting a friend who has a bullet proof vest on and the bullet penetrates the vest. Then saying, O but he could have ducked or moved. Why the fk shoot at him to begin with?

Are they streaming that footage on a dial up connection? Seriously - even the SABC has better footage and quality than that.

The TV station is not 'streaming' that anywhere, whenever someone wants to see it. It was uploaded to a site (probably Youtube) and you are downloading it from from there....so work out where the speed issue is and call your ISP tomorrow.

Before the other guy tries to enlighten you...do you know it was cricket they were playing? Do you know that the guys with the bat scores runs, the other guy tries to stop runs and get the team out, team with most runs wins?

No, actually it was streamed over the internet, which is why it's so shoddy. That's what a news presenter said anyway.

Again, please enlighten me on the reason a Bouncer NEEDS to be part of cricket. Only need 1 valid reason why it should be there as opposed to a normal delivery.

Because bowlers use it to get wickets??? Do you need a better reason?

If they are only going to bowl stock balls then cricket would be a lot easier...short balls stop batsmen from coming on front foot all the time, if there was no doubt then why bother.
