I watched the eTV news and they made a big fuss about crime levels on the rise, especially house burglary. Frightening report backed by the recent stats.
-------------- > Then on SABC3 they opened with the very upbeat "Crime continues to drop ..", we should be happy etc .. load of cr*p. Such government propaganda is getting more blatant by the day ..

Thats funny because Minister of Safety was disapointed. I suppose SABC didn't give that part.

Does anyone have a link to all the released crime stats? Would be interesting to see how they compare to the 2006 results.

those are just reported crimes

i wonder if anybody has stats on unreported crime's, which i doubt because they are unreported

im sure if every single person reported a crime those stats would go through the roof

Eish not good. Up where it counts and down where it doesn't count :( :(

Atleast they've gotten (and hopefuly) broken the gang that were responsible for the St Tropez shooting.

I think so too...
dunno about 2006 stats - if there were any, that is.

Just a quick question guys. I see the report claims that the number of rapes has decreased but the number of murders have increased. I think this is bull. could it be that if someone is raped then murdered that it only counts towards the murder stats or am I wrong here.

The provincial/suburb breakdown really makes you appreciate how bad some people have it in some areas.

Compare Kwa Mashu with Durban North. There's probably less than a 10km radius between the one and the other.

Yup that is pretty shocking.

It would be interesting though if they included stats per capita or show estimated polulation densities for areas.

Also compare % increase in some crimes for Durban North ... all forms of robbery seem to have gone thro' the roof

The ANC has noted with concern the crime statistics released yesterday by Charles Nqakula, the safety and security minister. The ruling party says while there has been a reduction in the level of contact crimes, it appears that crime continues to have a negative impact on the quality of life of South Africans.

Please will some one tell me how you commit aggravated robbery and murder without contact?
Or does a bullet count as "remote" crime?
