Cachalia launched "Operation Iron Fist" in July 2006, pledging to resign if it could be found that he had failed to do something about controlling crime levels. Firoz Cachalia, Gauteng's MEC for community safety, will not resign. He denied promising to resign, adding it was the media who had reported "inaccurately and unfairly" six months ago.
