As some of you know we are busy putting together a website for Victims of Crime in SA (and we're looking to partner with similar organisations worldwide). In any case, we have been checking out various sources to try and figure out Crime Statistics in South Africa, and we have made a shocking discovery: South Africa ranks second in the world for the number of murders per capita. SA also ranks second in the world for total number of Rapes (overall) - irrespective of population, and more alarmingly, we rank 1 in the world for number of Rapes per capita. We also rank number 1 in the world both for murders with guns in Total and therefore also for number of murders with guns per 1000 people.

I am indeed shocked

I am also shocked but not surprised

:(

Just remember not to whine about this... Or else you have to leave the country

Here we go again...
Moklet:
...Are you questioning the stats? - If yes, please be more specific.
...Are you happy with the state if the stats are correct?

I travel and work in Africa and one thing I have found is that in SA many people seem to think that we have arrived (generalisation) and don't think attention to detail is necessary...

This thread is going South quickly...

kingmonty : Ya, I have seen the stats somewhere. I think it might have wikipedia

Deliberate attempt to cover up the bad and promote false impression of good!

EdRobinson : I think he was making a joke about the minister of safety and securities comment the other day

There is nothing wrong with having this discussion, and it is an important one. It is refreshing to see someone (kingmonty) actually trying to do something constructive about a problem

Well with Zuma's disregard for serious matters of aids and the Security Minister outburst to cover up the truth, What do you expect!

I'm not supporting moklet's side, but isn't he referring to Safety and Security Minister Charles Nqakula's statements the other day... - (edit: never mind - posted too late :P)

There is a few smilies on the side that can help to indicate it. We are not as telepathic as the race zealots seem to be on this forum. I cannot see that Moklet sarcastic neither know his state of mind!

And the government (who always seem to say crime is going down) is shown yet again to be lying to the masses in order to hide their incompotence.

Shows those statistics to Gun Free SA who think no guns would make the country safer :D

Well if it makes you all feel any better its Honduras that has the highest per capita murder rate. These statistics do not include countries in war or with opressive goverments. I mean imagine some African countries murder rates and how the goverment probably wont show those statistics
