Criminal switching off electricity main box

So my electricity went out in the evening. Review on CCTV and I see two guys fiddling at main outside electricity box and switched it off. I know there is probably some criminal agenda. But What would the point or purpose of this serve by them turning off my mains?
 
Potentially cut off any alarm systems that don't have a working backup battery? Most people don't replace the alarm system, electric gates, and garage door batteries when they should so when you cut the power those things are dead.
 
They are watching you. What will you do next to restore power. Good thing you are also watching them.
 
They do that to run your alarm/electric fence batteries down.
Once Flat usually 2-4 hours they come in at their leisure.

Good practice to double up on batteries and change them every year. Ideally you want 8 hours of backup on fence and alarm, that should outlast most loadshedding and nights

When you leave the house they will break in

Inform your security company and request a patrol van is parked outside for a week or so
 
Post the video on YouTube OP. I'm sure all the news outlets will carry the story

This is exactly what they did.... They switched off at 8pm, at 11pm they retuned but I had already switched the mains back on. Saw this footage this morning.

I have also experienced this over November-December 2017, 2018, and expecting it to start any day again. If it happens at night, I do not go out to switch it on again, and phone my security company to switch it on. In the daytime, I take my remote panic button (always on me) in case I get ambushed. I do not have fixed panic buttons at home, only remote ones, which are much safer, because they will work anywhere indoors, outside and on the pavement. I will be going soon to the municipal offices to apply to get my electrical switch moved indoors, so this will prevent future such attacks.
 
It's good to warn people about any pending criminal activity.

I never knew about this new way of criminal house break planning here in the EC. Thanks :) :) I will warn everyone here to be vigilant.
 
This has been a tactic for quite a few years now,
Recently I have had the same - when I call their callcentres, they say it's "Loadshedding"
These criminals are getting more and more brazen by the day !
