I have 2 x PCs connected wirelessly (no security, no encryption, no internet sharing) purely for transferrinf files between the 2.

I've just got a 3rd PC to be able to transfer files between the 3. The wireless dongle on the 3rd PC see's the current network SSID but won't connect.

All 3 PCs are on the same workgroup. Anything else that should be the same on all 3? File formats? OSs? names? anything?

Ahem, what on earth are using to 'connect' these devices together? Satellite, super towers, or maybe a wireless switch? You need to state what hardware you running for any1 to be able to diagnose this problem, the more info the better ;)

Oh right ;)

1st PC - Linksys WAG300N router/gateway/switch/
2nd PC - Linksys WMP54G wireless PCI card

Wireless B/G mix ... 90% signal

Is that right? :/

Oh - and the 3rd has a Canyon USB dongle - dunno model or anything.

It see's and *should* connect to PC1 ..., but won't

The fact that your first two PC's connect fine, the problem simply lies with your third PC, more specifically you wireless dongle. Remember these dongles don't have a range as far as the wireless NIC. In fact, I've come across a dongle that shows full signal in the utility but does not connect. After bringing it closer to the switch it worked, try that.

some card don't like WPA encryption (TKIP or AES) check the manual of the usb card for the supported encryption type, open your network, no encryption and see if the dongle connects, once connected apply your encryption WEP/WPA and check if it connects

he mentioned that he was not using any security.

are all the card WiFi approved? some brands dont like talking to each other but WiFi approved devices are tested to work with all other WiFi approved devices
