Any CRM 2011 experts out there that can confirm (or deny) that they've successfully installed CRM 2011 against a SQL DB with volumes as mount points rather than drive letters.
CRM should not even know about the mount points...
It will connect to the SQL DB, which will be presented through either a FQDN instance or IP Address.
The only potential issue I can see is if the CRM system makes use of FileStream objects.. but even then I don't see why it would know the difference, SQL should handle all of that itself. (I have yet to use FileStream in any way shape or form so don't know all the technical details of how it operates at the SQLOS level).
If Microsoft doesn't support this configuration, there must be some reason other than SQL for not it not being supported. You can always try and be the first.
Yip, that was me. I (obviously) don't agree with MS that it isn't a supported configuration, hence the personal vendetta against them I just think it's stupid.
As far as I am concerned, and to echo what's been said here, mount point or drive letter, it should be transparent (enough) that CRM doesn't even know about it.
