Cross platform development options

Only reason i'd ever use OSX is for Logic Pro. Otherwise i hate it.
Those that hate "OSX", don't really know it, it's really just another *nix under covers; the wrapping is however better than most Linux.

Pssst. it's now called macOS (no more OSX since 10.11)

Pssst. I could care less what moniker they're using now.

I just think fanboys get gooey over nothing, the GUI is actually very plain and boring.

It's Google's approach that I'm less enthused about -- by not hitching their wagon to a specific set of stallions, takes a lot away.
I certainly would prefer Go instead of Java; but even Go feels quite neglected in comparison with Rust and Swift. I mentioned those two because in comparison with C++, they're like Go, considered the new kids on the block.

Plus much of the Android UX pain is attributable to JVM; problems all but solved in Go's GC

Go being neglected how so exactly? You seem to making statements without any form of evidence to back it up.

I love macOS by far the best operating system in existence today

Yeah I'm not going to continue a "this vs. that" debate. Simply said it's *nix, so I'm struggling to see the justifiable disdain. User's UX issues I probably could appreciate, but for a developer; who spends their time often in a terminal or IDE I can't

Plus I certainly find it easier to run Windows and Linux in a VM than I do the other way around. Certainly don't know anyone in my circles that has successfully built iOS / macOS apps in a Windows or Linux hosted VM; the reverse for Windows / Linux is quite the norm -- I certainly do it all the time (for well over 8 years) and Windows is a healthy income stream.

We don't all write iOS / macOS apps. So just because it makes sense to you its not a global standard.

Anyways this conversation is boring. I'll be going back to ableton now.

I'm a developer; so I build apps for pretty much anything the client requires -- my desktop platform just happens to be the most practical choice of what works well for multi-platform profile. Remember unlike many of the developers on this forum I have been at this for well over 30 years; so my choices weren't easily made (certainly not the stuff of a fanboy).

...and yes that does mean I have a pretty intimate knowledge of every version of Windows, *nix and mac OS released.

Linux has apt-get -- so in your mind what's the difference? Plus have you heard of Mac-Ports

Practically all *nix are similar in this regard. Windows until fairly recently sucks with package / dependency management.

Yum and Apt have been around for a while. Took a lot of the admin out of setting up quickly, but introduced security issues.

Security issues...??? Pffft Developers typically leave that snore-fest for the dorks... (admin / IT) :D

Default add recipe 1,
if x the add recipe 2,
else if y add recipe 3
....
When all else fails blame the developer...

"That rogue code running on that development server at droids house blew the office diginet line, overheated the network switches and crashed the raid array on the server in London. I will need a bazillion rand , and have to fly to London for 2 weeks to fix it. "

Sounds reasonable to me.

Assumptions, the mother of all dork behaviour
Assumes the CIO is also a dork, if that's the case the antiquated diginet link, Switches & SAN is the least of their problems

Us windoze foolz can also be cool with our chocolatey

Personal note: Dorks have feelings...
Resolution: Hahahahaha...

/Edit Long term: out sourcing dorks == less dorks, problem solved.

I'm kind of a windoze foolz too (as work dictates); but I never boot-up without a Parallels VM ("Windoze flavored condom")
