Hi guys
Not sure if its true but some of you have lead me to believe my system isn't running how it should.

As the title says i have two 4850's, my Mb is a P5Q Deluxe, ram is transcend ddr2 800 2x 2gb, power supply is RaidMax RX-700SS 700 Watt, my Cpu is a e8400 and i have a seagate 500gb 32mb 7200rpm.

I found this http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/foru...4870-hd4850-crossfire-performance-review.html
First i noticed was the TWO crossfire bridges? Is it necessary for you to use two? Secondly was the games, they pretty old and i would like reviews of newer games with newer drivers but cant seem to find.

An issue sorted, my MB is fine for the two cards even at 8x and 8x.

Two issues raised without confirming if true or not, my CPU is bottling necking and i have two different brands of 4850's(Sapphire and force3d).

Thanks for any help guys.

1. Are you overclocking ?
2. Rubbish psu
3. I use 2 bridges not sure if it is needed or not but i do it incase
4. I seriously doubt there is a bottleneck as i had the same system a few months back and had no issues even when i did not oc
5. Do the games you play take advantage of crossfire ?

I ask again what PSU are you running and is it certified on ati's list?

1. No to keen on overclocking.
2. Why? Wat does it do wrong?
3. Only got with one of my cards? I'll check again though didnt think it was needed.
4. Yay haha
5. I play cod4 get crashes(not sure why, freezes with stuttering sound, have to switch system off) sometimes and i vsync it. Then most new games not sure which use xfire, POP4, COD5, Gta4(waiting for patches but i have it), Left 4 dead(AWESOME), far cry2, crysis warhead etc.

it' might not be spitting out enough power, for one...

my buddy had a crappy psu, and couldn't get he's farcry 2 to work - replaced the psu and presto! apparently his gaming ram didn't get enough power...

so - what do you have??

Ryansta, where are you located? Maybe there is someone close to you that can maybe lend you a psu or something and try to resolve your issue.

Are you running ATI catalist 8.12 driver?

oh, lol - now i see the psu...hehe...

*checks on the ati site...

well, It should still work though, saw some 525W's being certified...

Yeah, I don't think it is a hardware problem, maybe just needs a clean install, but if he is close by, it might make sense just to test a few things first.

Nothing wrong with your Raidmax PSU, ..I had an Omega that served me well.

i don't think it's his psu.

maybe one card isn't working properly...

Ryansta - bench your pc with Card A only, then Card B only, and then both. then we might see something there...

use 3d mark.

I stay in fourways. But ya will do singular test, but guru3d got 9000+ for vantage, which is wat i get. I dont think theres anything wrong, just support for drivers, i am using 8.12 yes. Does any1 know which is the primary card on the asus P5Q, heard its the bottom one? And can any1 confirm that 2 crossfire bridges are beta?

It could possibly be your power supply but im not sure , not being able to find any other specs of your PSU other than the ones listed here .

Crossfire 4850's need about 300 watts of power at peak performance , and your power supply is able to deliver 240 watts of power per 12 v rail , 480 in total on the 12 v rail.

2* 20A * 12v = 480 Watts

Remember that your CPU and motherboard also consume power so you are cutting it close.

The fact that there is 28 A on the 3v rail and 30A on the 5v rail shows us that this PSU might still be based on the older generation of PSU's where the motheboard and cpu ran of the 5v rail , this is also a way of making the powersupply cheaper to produce whilst getting that 700watt figure.

Ati and nvidia certification is marketing and does not tell you anything of the components quality.

Have you tried to find out what temps are on your 4850 during gaming ? as it seems your PC is crashing only when gaming it might be that they are overheating .

Also what OS are you running , if its XP it can even be your sound driver that is giving you trouble.

I'm close to forways, work in bryanston, so if you don't come right, give me a scream and maybe I can help.

Well i also thought it was heat, it crashes and i cant go out and check though, but its only on COD4 and wen i disable crossfire no problems in cod4 so i think its drivers or something, my friends 4870 1gig has endless problems with COD. I am using Vista ultimate 64bit. haha i know i got ripped butt i paid R799 ex vat so thats almost a grand that'll neva sell haha dam my psu.
