Planning an epic road trip in April next year and part of it is making our way from the KZN Midlands to the Garden Route.

I was thinking of crossing through Lesotho to Ficksburg via Underberg and doing Sani Pass. Bucket list item.

Has anyone crossed Lesotho recently and what can we expect? Might not be possible at the end of April due to the weather.

Pretty much. I know Sani has had some work done to it recently as they move towards tarring it.

I have a high clearance 4wd SUV that is very capable offroad so a couple of dirt road isn't a bother.

The road is only getting tarred to the SA border post, after that the road is just boulders..

The R26 is wrecked. FKD, broken, potholes, mineshafts, drunk taxis animals wandering pissed all over the place.
Just another s hithole.

If only you knew someone from Lesotho that you could ask.

Not all of the R26 is bad, between ladybrand and rouxville the road got tarred 4-5 years back, it has some potholes here and there, but gets filled regularly, as a temporary measure, generally this time of year this we see an additional effort to keep them filled,(R26 is notorious for the amount of accidents during the silly season) but there isn't a lot of them to start with any ways. There are some stretches that are pretty bad towards ladybrand. From what I heard from my brother is after ladybrand it is a complete and utter shyte show.Definitely not all of the R26 is bad.

Lol I am definitely on the civilized side of the R26 here :p
