CrossOver for Mac Beta Now Available

this whole student/teacher version thing has me peeved. if MS can afford to change the packaging and sell office for 1/3 the price of the "full" version then it gives a pretty good idea of what the margins are! *reaches for lube and bends over*
Profit on Office and Windows is around 85%. Of course they could sell it to everyone for the lower price they charge to students, but then they wouldn't be rolling in billions of Dollars.

I wasn't blown away by the trial, particularly entourage. It didn't have a "proper" aqua feel and the integration to ilife sucked.

Not having access is a real drag.
Perhaps, but Entourage blows away the horrible excuse for a mail program that came with the Mac. The included mail program and Safari were two things I really didn't like on the Mac.

On Windows I switched from Access to the free version of SQL Server.

Wow - I hate entourage and love Safari - especially since version 2. Since adding pithhelmet and acid search to it I rarely start up anything else. Version 3 looks even better. :D

Mail.app is my preferred email client. Works really well for me.

I have to second bwana. Mail.app and Safari is my method of choice.
The only exception is that I have to use Firefox to log in @ MWEB. Safari just won't do it.

Filemaker does it's thing in place of Access - our entire front office runs on it.

Its because of sign me in - go to pref's - security - change accept cookies to Always.

Thanks - sorts that one out! :)
It annoyed the hell out of me for ages. Endless loop

I thought I was the only one that finds Mail to be excellent at what it does. I luv the way it handles multiple pop accounts.
I've have no problems with it and have never once regretted moving away from entourage.

Crossover feedback

I thought I'd give you guys some feedback:

I managed to install IE6 yesterday (confirmed approved app for Crossover). Installation was successful, and 'normal' pages load. I am having serious problems when trying to used pages like property24, and mostly anything with buttons on the pages.

So it seems to be ok for 'light' websites, but as soon as there is something 'fancy', it doesn't function as one would hope.

I also realise it is still in Beta (I think), but I am not impressed at all. Parallels IMHO works much better.

Active x for web pages suck (i.e. only for IE), thats why.

Yeah, but the thing is that if you install IE6 in Crossover, it should be able to do everything that IE6 on windows does, which it doesnt. And that is a relatively simple application. Imagine doing an A1 size Application design in Visio, just to find out afterwards that neither the Autosave or save functions work. You'd be pretty p!ssed off :D Or even worse, you press the save button, it shows 'Saving', but the doc is not saved
