Crowd-funded AdBlock campaign

Not just companies, but individuals who rely on advertising on their blogs or on youtube. As much as ads annoy me, they also allow for people to generate a small to reasonable income (assuming a really popular blog/youtube channel) and thus continue doing what they love. Maybe they're the minority, but I've heard more than once the past few weeks people complaining about adblocking killing what little income they were getting off their popular online presence.

Also many websites rely on ad-revenue to keep doing what they're doing. The 'companies' will feel the impact of this a lot less than many of those sites you enjoy on a regular basis.

lets make an example of me :P

I have mixed emotions, I love and use adblock but it does hurt my site obviously

Well that's a new one. Totally wrong though.

How's that?

You pay for all those "free" content and services with your eyeballs. Enjoying content without paying is known as piracy.

Ok...if not piracy, then a hint of irony? You're advocating something (AdBlock) on a platform (Mybb) which only functions if we don't do what you're advocating. Yeah - this platform can remain static, but wouldn't you rather see it grow? Would you be prepared to switch off AdBlock if adverts were presented in a non-obtrusive manner on all websites ?

The advertising on the SourceForge download pages are the worse. Lots of Download / Click here banners distracting from the real link.

Would you pay a subscription fee though to use sourceforge if they removed the advertising?

No, but I am usually using AdBlock on the site so I don't see the adverts. I just find the dishonest tactic of the advertisers wrong, but then if you're on Sourceforge you should know what you're doing. My next bugbear is 'freeware' and 'opensource' that sneak search bars into their installation packages. If you're not that clued up you'll just be asking for a tsunami of malware and browser clutter.

But that's the point. How do you expect them to keep the servers running without an income? Either you pay or view adverts. If everyone used Ad block those services wouldn't exist.

You're going to have to do some explaining how this falls under copyright infringement. Tell me, is using a text based browser to view a site piracy then? How about a browser that doesn't have flash or javascript enabled?

I never advocated Adblock. I said that the internet advertising industry has created a situation where using adblock is more and more desirable on many levels
