Who still downloads via HTTP? that's so 70s!

cloudload.com comes to mind. But I only used that service to stream new stuff.

Paul, CW, is it possible to use a download service like cloudload for streaming purposes only? IE the download does not come down at line speed, but the stream does?

You mind sending me a PM where I can "buy" those mirrors? :D

6.4GB out of 12GB. Download started on my PS3 yesterday at about 12:00 with a pause break between 18:00 and 22:30 last night. I did contact via Online support this morning. It was not worth my time. I was told my line is fine and there is an international problem.

This is on a 4Mbps line. The download should have competed in about 8 hours. 27 hours later, I'm half way.

You see, if you had a Xbox it would have been almost done by now. :p

A lot of people have started doing large downloads on HTTP in order to circumvent the shaping of NNTP, P2P etc ...

Also HTTP as a protocol doesn't go as far back as the 70's :p

I'd have to disagree with you on that one. I've always used HTTP or HTTPS as it's more secure and safer in my eyes then P2P and NNTP. With HTTP/S you are guaranteed speeds as its coming from specific/dedicated server.

Not once have i used it as an excuse for circumventing shaping.

So in essence you use it to circumvent P2P and NNTP?

Can't agree more, nothing beats a mouse and Keyboard. My Xbox is there for my daughter to play her kinect games on. :)

My son used to love kinect.
Now it just sits in the cupboard with his pile of games.
He literally only plays BO2 now.

My daughter used to also play a lot. Then she discovered Netflix and the control. :( So yeah my man cave get's used a LOT now.

My son has Unified remote installed on his S3 mini, he loafs on the couch and operates the pc via his phone.
Lazy bugger :)

I know it is a bit off topic, but going to ask anyway.
All my P2P and NNTP content are scheduled for 00:00 - 06:00.
In light with the latest info in regards to http downloads, how can I schedule Youtube videos to download in that period?
I follow a couple of guys which do Vblogs (MJMilton, James Jones, etc) and several other guys.

In general I use FDM as a download manager, but I can't see a way that I can schedule YouTube videos?
Any advice please?

IDM has a scheduler I think, used to use it a lot.

Apparently FDM does have a scheduler. Look on their forum, should find some advice there.

Smart file management and powerful scheduler
With FDM you can easily organize downloaded files by their type, placing them in predefined folders. A smart scheduler allows you to start and pause downloading files, as well as perform other actions (launch other applications, establish or hang up connection, etc.) at the set time.
