CSGO Sticky thread

It's been down since about 2pm today. I'm also trying to get some more info around when we can expect it back up but nothing so far.

Afaik the servers are hosted by Mweb but I can't find any info anywhere on the downtime/when we can expect it back up.

Valve has been moving the servers away since May,

The current state of the South African Valve servers

If you have been playing any CS:GO or Dota 2 today you would have noticed that there has been some rather nasty connection issues and high pings. Well, this is due to Valve's current process of moving the servers in an attempt to "expand the official datacenter to South Africa". In the recent patch notes for CS:GO the developer mentioned that this was one of the changes, apart from other fixes and tweaks.

It seems that Valve has shut down all South African servers in the process while this move is taking place, so expect issues when playing Dota 2 and CS:GO. We have reached out to Valve on the matter, to get an ETA and more information on this move, and will update you as soon as we have more.

Valve launches new CS:GO and Dota 2 servers in SA

If you remember a few weeks ago we got some reports of players having some rather nasty issues with the local Valve servers. While we used to host the servers at MWEB, we heard from Valve that they were moving their servers in an attempt to "expand the official datacenter to South Africa. The real reason behind the downtime was the servers being migrated to a new host. We do know where this host is, however, but we do know that they are based in SA.

There was a lengthy downtime during this migration as both MWEB and IS hosted Valve servers in the past, and when this "expansion" commenced, these servers suffered some issues. While this is no longer the case. Valve's new servers are a mystery to us as we are not sure where they are situated. The truth of the matter is that Valve did not "expand" anything during this time, but rather just rolled out their own servers and shut down the ones that were hosted by IS and MWEB.

Valve has now issued us with a request to shut down our servers, so we no longer have control over them or can do anything about the latency issues user might face for any reason. All we know is that the new servers are up and that they are based in SA.

There are no servers in Cape Town.

Thanks.

I'm based in Joburg and haven't had any issues during the last month, up to today. Hopefully Valve bring these servers back online chop chop.

Yah well, wherever they are hosting these ‘expansion’ servers they are not as catering towards us here in Cape Town than to those in Johannesburg. Imho, Mweb also lacked the acquired service levels since around mid-2016 to host these servers, since the experience levels dropped and dropped... I can see why Valve took it away though, even Mweb’s above two articles give the impression that Valve dropped them like a hot potato.

Glad the Valve people sorted out the Johannesburg people, again. My CSGO experience is still utter schit though. They really need to give us servers down here as well and get an SLA in place between the two locations to ensure consistency.

Anyways. Normally I play like an idiot when I have a bad gaming experience, but tonight I didn’t care. 1:3 is okay. Also, Prod, see how much better a team can play when you mute an inadequate in-game caller.

It's a shame really :(.. miss having an average of 5-7 ping, gives you that 0.000001s extra edge >.<
Before the update last year I would get excited to see that 'cpt' ping result and now its just that lonely old 'job' with an average of 45 :')

Who was the in game caller? Probably prod or bunny, right? :crylaugh:

Actually, I love random in game callers (when I solo queue), always having just the winning strategy, but always bottoms fragging. They get killed first, and if you miss a shot they rage away.

Nah wasn't me, I didn't play with Wolf last night. Probably Prod - I mean just yesterday he told me to Boost him on Cache, then takes a headshot as he jumps up. I mean what kind of call is that? Noobs :p

Considering how often our damn servers go down, i am thinking of building an Android app that will notify you when a specific server (South Africa in our case) goes down and when it comes back up.

Is this something you guys might use?

Cool idea actually. I'll be interested. If you need ideas PM me, I have an idea for you if you want to add features.

That would be super awesome. I don't have an Android device to use, but would you be able to do something web-based as well?

And for anyone wondering, no, a 144hz monitor doesn't improve skill or the way you play, but the smoothness is cool.

What Genisys said :) but i do know an iOS dev will chat to him to see if he is happy to do something like this

EDIT: Just chatted to him and once i have this app set up he is happy to get it made. I mean this isnt to make money, just to help us gamers out :)
