By pouring the water directly into the bowl?Um so why haven't you been flushing with grey water yet?[/url]
Is it ok to use sea water to flush toilets?
Ian Neilson: In general, the City does not encourage the large-scale household-level flushing of toilets with sea water. It could corrode parts of the reticulation infrastructure and our wastewater treatment facilities are not designed to handle high salinity. As far as possible, residents are encouraged to use appropriate greywater and alternative sources, such as from boreholes, to flush toilets.
As alternative resources could diminish due to usage limits, the City will flush the sewerage system at appropriate points. This forms part of the comprehensive operational plan that the City is developing. Highly experienced and qualified engineers are working hard at putting measures in place that will ensure the system continues functioning as far as possible in the event of Day Zero occurring, to safeguard both public health and the infrastructure.
Three, two, one - flush!
This could be the daily chant around Cape Town as the city's sanitation director plans for the possibility of city-wide group flush at certain times to keep faeces from getting stuck in sewerage pipes.
"It could be from 06:00 to 08:00 in the morning, and then again at a certain time later in the day," said Pierre Maritz on the sidelines of a briefing on Sunday to provide details of how Day Zero would work if the city runs out of water.
Maritz said the "royal flush" might have to be called at certain times of the day to build up the velocity needed to get the load to the treatment plants.
Why don't people just take massive water containers and fill up water for toilet cisterns ? Then u can flush like there is no tomorrow? The sea water is not exactly gonna run out.
If i was in Cpt I'd do this.. just means more water for to use for other things.
I just met the chairperson of the block across the road. She wants to install composting toilets!?
