"We congratulate you, madam Minister and Director General, on this momentous occasion, and commend you for calling this colloquium together." - Mike vd Bergh - Chairman CUASA.
You what! I have had dealings with this Mike vd Bergh in the past when he ran FNB's VPN offering. This is from their info blurb "support an industry association that really intends to make a difference!"
In my opinion the word Intention = We'll try = we'll actually achieve nothing!
The time for *****footing around the govt (specifically the Dept of Communications), ICASA and Telkom is over. We do not live in peace and harmony with them! They are screwing up the Internet economy NOT only in SA but also the rest of Africa.
SA is the only country on the continent with the skill and infrastructure to deliver services to & on behalf of other African nations whishing to break into the Internet.
The time will come when all business', regardless of size or geagraphic factors, will be able to use Internet technologies and Open Standards to drive profits, by reducing costs and by increasing marketshare, through the delivery of service excellence to their client base - BUT we HAVE TO DEMAND a free and deregulated telecomms industry in this country if we are going to make it happen.
My 2c worth...
